Hey so I am hoping that someone can help me. I just got an unlocked Galaxy Nexus and LOVE it! Unfortunately for some reason it keeps asking me to update my system. The update is to 4.1 Jellybean. Here is what happens.

1. Phone is currently running Android 4.1 *Kernel version 3.0.31 ge8de0e2 *Buil number JRN84D
2. I get a popup! Android 4.1 is ready to upgrade. Downloaded and verified 8.5 mb.
3. I hit restart and install... everything goes fine and then BANG. My android dies it shows the picture of an android lying on the floor with his chest open.
4. The only thing I can do is remove the battery and restart the phone.
5. It keeps hounding me to update. It closes my text messages with the update page. Very annoying but every time the update crashes.

Help! (and most importantly THANK YOU!)

Try this:

Boot into stock recovery and format cache partition. Power off the phone, hold down both volume buttons and power on the phone. Release all the buttons when your phone vibrates. Volume button change the screen option, power button does the highlighted option. Press volume button until "Recovery Mode" is highlighted. Then choose format recovery partition. (Sorry, don't have stock recovery so you'll have to figure this part out yourself.) When done reboot. Try your update.

If you have trouble getting into recovery, try it again. Sometimes you have to do it multiple times before the volume keys will work.

If clearing the cache doesn't work, you have a couple options:

  • Work it out with your cell provider.
  • Factory reset
  • Use WUGS Toolkit to go back to stock.

Factory reset. Clearing the cache does not result in losing data, but a factory reset does. A factory reset means you have to re-enter your google credentials and download apps again. There's a good chance all the apps you installed previously will install, but paid apps will still be available if you use the same google acct.

WUGS. More info here: http://androidforums.com/nexus-7-all-things-root/581205-nexus-root-kit.html

So dos anyone have any possible solutions?

Is it possible the update download is corrupted. If so how would I delete it off the phone and try redownloading it.

If you are absolutely certain that the phone has not been modified, Id do a factory reset. This ensures that your phone has clean system files. There's a possibility that the reason it won't update properly is due to corrupt system files that it cannot read.

Be sure to back up anything important!
