BOOST SGS2 FH29 Root Achieved!

Yes. Flashing AGAT/CWM then restoring a backup with root already installed.
I thought you needed the custom kernel in order to get CWM or AGAT on the phone. Since I have no backup I have to start from step one.

Does free Wifi tether work with the root, such as Wifi Tether for root users? Lastly can we confirm that flashing the stock rom gives us the stock kernel as well ?

I can confirm that flashing the tar.md5 for the stock rom via Odin gets you back to full stock, no triangle warning, no root, stock kernel, stock baseband, stock everything -- so if you need to send it in for service or get a warranty exchange, it should be good if you do that.

And I can also confirm that wifi for root users works just fine.

The trick is you have to have someone else's CWM backup to get rooted this way, or any ROM in general.

I haven't tried that, but that's still a kernel other than stock. I'm not sure if there is a CWM-packed stock Boost kernel out there, unless we package one.

Not a kernal a backup: just like a Windows backup to cloud storage and usable by everyone.

In the Prevail section, many CWM backups were made of stock, rooted, new ROMs, ... everything - CWM is quick and convenient.

Hopefully the trend will continue.

Yeah I mean I get that, but how do you restore the backup without custom recovery? Like a one-click or something?

You can't restore a backup without custom recovery to my knowledge BUT on the ZTE warp forum the devs have figured out a way to flash custom roms through the stock recovery by properly signing the zip. It's literally the easiest way to obtain root and cwm. I'm not sure if it will work on the s2 though. I wonder if it would work on all phones.... something I'll look into. But this may come a little down the road. We need more custom roms as well. I figure within a month or 2 we will have a decent dev community.

And by the way GUYPHS, if you can take the time to make a separate thread titled [Root Guide] and write up a detailed and simple guide with the needed links I will have it put as a sticky!! It would be really beneficial to everyone;)

Actually you could just use what you've put here for the most part. But only cwm and su zip should be included in the root guide.. cm10 should have a different post titled Rom. With credits to the developer. But this will give us some organization.

Oh and always a disclaimer stating none is responsible if your phone is damaged in the process. Use at your own risk. (Just something similar to that)

Unrooted you need CWM or AGAT.

Once you are already rooted you can use Titanium Backup without CWM, but it is a bit more ineffiecient.

I am a bit confused this thread seems to be abit off track. It should only be about rooting this phone. Other threads should be opened up about running different Roms and such. To people that have successfully Rooted, If I buy this phone and activated Ill be on what ever the most current baseband since I dont have the phone I am not sure what it is, If I follow the link and the directions in the top post will it work fine ? Perhaps someone could simple the steps and the files needed. Thanks to any and all who answer ..
