OK. Between this forum of course and motorcycle/auto racing/radio control I frequent forums on a regular basis. I'm trying to understand what Tapatalk is all about. It appears at first glance to be nothing more than a glorified bookmarks app. I tried to watch the video on the app page but it appears to have been shot with a cell phone camera as you can't see anything on the device screen and the audio level is so blown out I can't understand what the guy is saying no matter how I adjust my volume. Enough of the app video critique. What are compelling reasons to use Tapatalk? Will it really make my forum surfing that much easier?

Joe

In a word, yes.

While browsing the forums on the N7 through Chrome is OK, it is very simple with tapatalk. You are a lot less likely to misclick something, you can get push notifications for thread updates and / or PMs. It also works very well on your phone for forum browsing as well. In fact, the forum app for Android Forums is in process of being updated to be based on Tapatalk.

I think Tapatalk is more useful on phone-sized devices, although even on my Bionic I hardly used it. On the N7, it's perfectly easy to load up the full website and browse forums normally. There's enough screen room to see everything. On a smaller phone screen, tapatalk serves a purpose to simplify and organize. All day long I visit different forums from my tablet and have to cancel out the stupid Tapatalk box that pops up telling me to try it.

I still prefer TT on my N7 but I do agree the advantages are greater on my GNex. I just tap a post in TT, hit the mor button on the pop up bar and choose open in browser if there is something from the web version that I want to see. But I can definitely see your point about not needing it.

The good thing is you only have to buy it once to use on both devices. I already had it on my phone, so when I got my N7 I just installed it there.

Thanks guys. I went ahead and bought it. Hopefully will be a slow night at work and I can play with it a bit. I don't normally even bother trying to use the phone for reading anything like forums. Maybe I will now. I use another account for my phone though. Will I have to pay for the app again?

In that case yes. Why do you use another account for the phone if you don't mind me asking?

Because after I broke my first N7 I didn't want to give up my $25.00 Play Store credit when I bought the new one so I created a new account. Not a big deal but I spent over $550.00 in two weeks on N7's. That credit wasn't much but it helped ease the pain ever so slightly...

To just piggy back on Unforgiven's comments, yes!
TT has made forum browsing a lot easier for me on both my N7 and Gnex. There are some limitations and bugs (mostly in regards to what Guides do), but I think it's a great app and one I definitely recommend.
Also, thanks Pup, forgot there were other skins/themes you could apply. I'll give some a shot.

Yup, TT is what I use most of the time on both phone and nexus 7. TT is the first app I ever bought. Totally worth it.

What makes it most worth it is if you're a subscriber to more than one forum. Very easy to switch back and forth.

The only thing I'd complain about personally is that I can't seem to search a specific category. Even though the option is supposedly there.

Maybe I need to make some kind of settings change but I'm glad I don't have to rely on TT for timely updates. The last post here finally gave my N7 a notification 9 hours after it was posted. Same time lag with other sites as well. Not a big deal as in most cases I will have logged in and checked posts in that time frame anyway.

This... I like the notifications when I use them, but switching between forums is why I use it. I have like 15 linked to the app.
