See update below. Issue is fixed!

    Original problem:

It will soft-brick your Galaxy Nexus!

The Play Store will prompt you to install the update for JB (ICS compatible). Once you do that, Apex will stop functioning. The home button will FC Apex and nothing will happen. You will, essentially, have a soft-bricked phone.

I was only able to recover out of that without a nandroid or ROM flash this way and if you come across ANYONE who has this issue and updated:

Use the recent apps button to go back to Play Store. Hit the back button to see all installed apps, and scroll down to Titanium Backup. Open it. Restore Apex Launcher (App only). Fixed.

If they don't have TiBU, it'll cost them: they'll have to wipe and flash their latest nandroid. And if they don't have that and/or aren't rooted? Then I am at a total loss as to what to tell them... other than wait for Apex to release a fix update. But they can never turn off their phones. EVER. Doing so will lose the Play Store in recent apps and they will never get another shot at updating.

    This is not pretty.

UPDATE: The developer has mobilized and fixed the problem. So feel free to update the app and continue to enjoy Apex :)

That's fantastic news: if it works. Titanium Backup saves Apex as a system app: I'm not sure how the PHONE treats it.

I look forward to hearing from someone who has used this method to recover.

It would only be a system app if you're rooted and on a rom which pre-installed it as the default launcher. In which case you'd have more options available to you to remove it.

Any non-rooted phone would have it installed as a normal user app.

Chief, you may want to update the original post. As mentioned above, there is a new update and the issues are fixed. I updated earlier today and had the same problem as others (thank goodness that settings is now in the pulldown menu so I could uninstall updates). I just tried to update again and everything is working.
