im still unsure exactly what custom rom+setCPU is doing

im running the latest MoDaCo custom rom along with setCPU (set to ondemand) and CacheMate, plus a class 6 SD card - which from reading these forums leads me to believe is about the fastest you can make an Orange Hero...

one, i was unsure when rooting to MoDaCo whether i automatically got the latest radio installed too or whether thats something you gotta do seperately (if so, am i missing better signal by having just the stock MoDaCo)

two, when 2.1 comes out should i ignore it completely?

i know how i did everything and why, but im still unsure if MoDaCo rom was the best choice for stability and speed ( i use the phone mainly for calls and music player, no games or apps really) - some ppl on the SetCPU forums say you should use some other ROM..

lastly, i dont really notice a huge speed increase from the stock phone (after the big orange update to fix lag) Vs the heavily modded setup i have now, its not exactly blazing fast, neither is the battery significantly better really..

is it all just gimmicks and the general fun of hacking thats attracting me to modding the phone or do you think these mods are genuinely boosting the functionality of the phone?

thanks U_U

No, if you want to update the radio you have to do it seperately. Radio ROMs can be network-specific, so best to check with other users on your carrier before flashing one that may potentially worsen your reception.

Is your signal poor now?

That's up to you. Don't install the RUU update if you want to retain root access though - wait for a rooted version.

Is it stable and fast enough for you at present? If so then yes. If not then no. ;)

It depends on your definition of "fast". Paul heavily optimised the ROM code and, together with Tek's optimised and recompiled kernel, the whole experience is much smoother and more fluid. It's never going to rival a Snapdragon for power but ask it to do something and it responds instantly. :)
