Samsung Galaxy S3 for $50 on Black Friday

can't say about memphis, but odd that the Dallas / Ft.Worth/ Arlington area is producing that speed. According to s4gru.com I'm seeing quite a bit of sites that were completed and upgraded for 4G. Granted in Arlington only two sites (near pantego and the Airport) but in Ft.Worth area quite a few have been upgraded.

One guy reported 28000+ kbps download and 10000+ kbps upload.

Still there is alot to do. The original completion date is scheduled for Nov 2012, but at the current rate of sites being upgraded it looks like it won't be until Feb 2014 when each and every site would be done.

i live in Fort Worth... worked all over the DFW area. and .. most of the locations are crap speeds.

sure if you are right next to a tower (within 1/2 mile and at non-peak times), you can get good speeds.

but my friend on ATT, I can count on his phone getting the data we need.. so i normally let him do all the data inquires.. or look up videos.. or websites.. or anything that is more data intensive than navigation!

i wish i was exaggerating :(

Dan, no offense, but I think there may be something wrong with you/your phone. I used to live in Dallas... this weekend I went back to visit some friends. Over the last 7 days I spent a lot of time in the Dallas area, I was in Carrollton, Addison, McKinney, Denison, Richardson, Grapevine, WhiteRock, and other parts of North Dallas... I never left 4G LTE coverage with my EVO LTE and my speeds ranged from 5 to 30mbps down and 2 to 12mbps up. Based on what you rant about here, I thought I would not get any improvements, but based on what I have heard at at S4GRU, I thought maybe I will. Guess the people at S4GRU were right!! :) Considering Sprint has only upgraded about 15% of the DFW market (per S4GRU), I couldn't believe the coverage and speeds I got. Needless to say, I was very impressed with Sprints network upgrades in Dallas.. and to think, they are only 15% done and are adding sites daily!!

hi Ben.. that is great for 4G LTE..

I was referring to 3G and Wimax 4G.
I and a lot of people have not had the chance to move to a LTE phone.
so my OG EVO is working on 3G network on sprint.
sprint said that with the new Vision network upgrade all data (including 3G and Wimax) would get better.
i have talked to a few customer service reps at sprint on the phone... and all have confirmed that 3G would be better by summer 2012.

The S3 is just a bit >< bigger than I'd want to go in a "phone." I put the word in quotes because I don't know as "phone" is an accurate description of these devices any more. Then again: "Hand-held wireless device" seems a bit unwieldy :p Anyway... TMO's S2, which is a bit larger than the others' S2s, I think hit my personal size limit.

Dan, I see what your saying. I can't speak for 3G, Since I was on 4GLTE 95% of the time I was in the north Dallas area. However, 4G WiMax is done. I know you have said it numerous times here, but its just not the case. I have been following the Network Vision upgrades extensively, and not once have I seen anything stating that improvements/expansion will be made to WiMax. From here on out its all 4G LTE.

Ben...

I understand that LTE is the future.
but when sprint first started to promote the Vision plan.. they have stated a few times.. that it would improve all sprint data networks.

but lets just go with your version.. and it is only LTE that will improve.. and 3G will stay at the dial-up speeds.. that more than 75% (maybe even more than 90%) of sprint customers are still on.

either way you look at this..
So Sprint believes and you think it is ok for this???

sprint is not living up to customer expectations!!

Where did "my version" say that 3G would/would not improve? I never said anything along the lines of what you said I did. I did not intend to speak upon 3G, my understanding is that it, too, will improve with NV. I just said WiMax would not improve (as you repeatedly say it will/should). Dan, WiMax is not part of NV! But, If you can provide a link that says otherwise... that Sprint (or Clear) said WiMax would improve as part of the Network Vision upgrades, I would like to see it. Thanks!

Edit: Perhaps spending some time reading the following link will remedy your confusion.

ben.. i was not trying to start something with you.. I know you are only trying to relieve my frustrations... sorry for the badly chosen words.

i dont need to prove they said it. i know they said it.. and that is good enough for me. not trying to convince anyone.

at the speed sprint's upgrading.. it will be 2015 (or Later) before they get MOST of their towers changed... and customers with LTE and without LTE phones will be stuck on 3G's dial-up till then.

well.. again.. I am stuck with sprint...
and come Black Friday.. i will have a LTE phone too.
but I will feel sorry for all other sprint customers that are still waiting for LTE on the 3G goodness.

It sounds like you may have misunderstood what you thought you heard.

And 2015 and later? Where are you getting your info? Hell, S4GRU has now posted markets that are starting early/ahead of schedule.
Dan, Im just trying to be as factual as possible based on the info we have from Sprint and S4GRU.com But, it appears you are just throwing out random thoughts that have no documentation.

Not for nothing, I am one that will both praise and critisize Sprint or any other carrier regardless if I work for them as a advocate, mod etc. And i will say this. I agree that Sprint should have had a middle ground plan to accomodate those that are on Wimax by making sure that any phone coming out between the announcement of going LTE to the completion of Network Vision also include Wimax radios so they won't be left out in the dark, but I also understand from a financial point it would have been to prohibitive to do so.

As for Sprint stating that wimax would be included in the network Vision upgrade. Sorry but that was never said.

And finally, it would be naive to think that Sprint (or any carrier) can upgrade its network from the ground up like what Sprint is doing in the amount of speed that most are wanting it to do. Most want it done yesterday and that is simply impossible. Especially in the most heavily populated areas where there are antennas every block or so on top of building that need access to be scheduled ahead of time. Personnally I am amazed at the progress that they are at.

I myself saw the writing on the wall many moons ago and decided that I did not want to be left out in the cold with my Wimax phone, so I decided to get the TriFi hotspot, which covers all three 3G, 4G Wimax and 4G LTE. granted most wouldn't go that route since that involves having another paying line. Just in case I too fall into a dead zone here in NYC when they start putting in LTE and stopping wimax (and not having a LTE phone).

Bottom line, I understand the fustrations that some members have over this issue. is it fair, probably not, but Sprint is doing the best it can and as fast as it can.

the date was all me.. 2015.
i dont give sprint any faith in their words or promises.

i hope they prove me wrong and can finish by or before their date.
from their own past.. i highly doubt they can.

if 2013 comes and goes.. and they are still only less than 50% done... they will be in for a very very bad future. customers will be jumping a sinking ship like rats
there wont be any $$$ to do the upgrades or pay the light bills.

Best phone I've used, amongst a lot of great phones. Great deal. Sprint network where I live is just okay, but I'm willing to wait.

I have a Verizon LTE tablet and the speeds are underwhelming on it, so I'm not sold on how great LTE is compared to 3G on a phone. I also have AT&T LTE hot spot, and the speeds are decent on that, but not sure I really need that speed right now on my phone. So I live with Sprint until LTE is available.
