Help Power (Wake) Button Usability Question

Current iPhone owner thinking about making the switch to the Verizon Nexus One. I have a concern about the usability of the power (wake) button on the top left of the Nexus One that I haven't heard anyone else mention so perhaps it isn't as big of an issue as I anticipate. Basically my concern is that the hand position and motion required to wake the device using that button is not the same position you want your hand to be in to use the phone. For example, with the iPhone I wake my device with the bottom "home" button that is on the face of the device and then I can very quickly just move my thumb up to swipe-to-unlock without having to reposition the phone. It seems like this would not be possible with the Nexus One given that there isn't a wake button on the face of the phone near the bottom.

I'd really love to hear from current Nexus One owners. Is this not the usability issue that I am making it out to be? Do you just adjust and find a new way of quickly waking and then swiping to unlock the phone that is just as comfortable and efficient as with the iPhone? If so, what do you do?

A bit troubled by this....

i came from an iphone 3gs and found using the home button to wake the screen way more convenient. its a bit of a pita using the top wake button on the nexus one as you have to adjust your hand positioning, to wake the phone, and unlock it. i personally feel that if i were to drop the phone, it would likely happen during this process, fumbling the phone in my hand. maybe its just me. but overall, its a minor drawback with this device, theres so many great things about it you just kind of get used to the inconvenience of the wake button.

Don't need root. Just download and install Lockbot, Lock 2.0, Keyguard Disabler or similar; voila--you can now use any button (volume rocker, trackball and all) to wake.

I've been looking for something that will allow me to use the trackball depress to power on from standby. I've tried LockBot (frequent force close) and Lock 2.0 (doesn't display Handcent pop-up previews). Any others I should check out? (I still want the lock functionality, so .g. Keyguard Disabler is not for me.)

Hm. Lockbot has never FCed on me and it's the only one I've ever used extensively, so I can't help here.

Since root isn't on the list of options and the programs listed tend to yeild varying results, the choice is going to be on you. If you can live with the stock location of the wake button or sort through various beta/ alpha programs with different degrees of success as I initially did. This was just one of many reasons I ultimately decided that root was the best choice.
