Was using ROM manager to install the latest Blackdroid ROM (v7.8), Install completed, Phone went black and now will not turn on nor reboot into recovery. The only semblance of life that the phone still has is that when I plug it into a portable charger the motorola symbol will come on the screen and stay until the battery is pulled.... Any thoughts? p.s. was working completely fine prior to this

Use a wall charger (not a USB to PC) and let it charge overnight. I doubt your phone is bricked. Also, have you tried to boot into recovery (holding the power button while you keep the X in the physical keyboard depressed)?

No, I haven't tried SBF.... when I hit the power button absolutely nothing happens... Its my understanding that SBF only works if you are able to power on while holding up on the D-pad... is this correct?

I would not attempt an sbf file with low battery.

Try taking the battery out for a half hour or so then putting it back and charging via a wall charger for a few hours. See if that makes it so you can get into recovery.

When I have it plugged in, it will not turn off/on ... the only time the screen even changes is when I plug it into a wall charger and then I get the motorola symbol while charging... when I plug it into USB port nothing happens even if I hit the power on/off button... thoughts?? I find it hard to believe this is a hardware problem as it worked immediately prior to this happening and I've had the phone for 2 months

I had a similar problem, what I did was, unplug the phone from the charger, pull the battery, slide out the keyboard, put the battery back in, and while holding x on the kyboard, plug the phone back into the charger, it should bring you back into recovery. Or at least it did for me.
Hope this helps.

If you have charged it on the wall outlet for more then 6 hours and tried multiple battery pulls then things aren't looking very good. I would try pulling out the sd card before turning it on just to see if that helps. If you can't get it into bootloader mode then the SBF is useless for you. ADB might work but I don't know for sure. What it sounds like to me is you have actually corrupted the bootloader somehow which won't allow you to boot into recovery or even the Android os.

The way an Android phones works is like this. You hit the power button and the bootloader boots/loads either recovery, fastboot, or the Android os depending on what buttons are depressed while turning the phone on. If your bootloader gets corrupted your are quite simply screwed. The only way to repair that is to dissemble the phone and find the JTAG hook ups which takes a professional OR a very well written guide which is not available for the Droid.

NOW here is where you are very lucky! With the G1 we were able to get a replacement whenever a OTA update was pushed because you can just say that the phone prompted you to install the OTA and then when it rebooted this is what happened. There is no way they can check to see if that is really what happened because without a bootloader you can't get anywhere.

Thanks for the help guys, looks like Im going to have to return it though.... I was able to get some of the nandroids off of the sd card using my old blackberry, one question though is what is the file on the SD card that stores my contacts so that I can put that on my computer and just put it on the new droid?
