Help 2.3.6 Question

Hi, I'm new to the site, but I wanted to asks someone experienced, is it safe to download the upgrade from Samsung,for the Samsung Admire? It came out August 1 for Metro PCs ( that's what I have). Will it affect any camera functions, phone calling, and internet use? Confused...

i don't think it's going to as I have downloaded an update for my Inspire and had no issues with anything. I did experience some bugs, but after doing a factory reset it worked great. What android version are you running?

Thank u for replying I'm running Gingerbread 2.3 now, the one it came with. How long does the update take timewise?

For me it took like 15 minutes or so to install the update. Sometimes people experience problems after a update, but usually a factory reset resolves any bugs.

Ok, thanks. Wait..one more question, is the upgrade going to make my phone "rooted"?

No. Accepting the update will not root your device. Root is acquired through different means and the methods of rooting all vary from devices. I don't think you will have problems after the update unless your phone shuts off during the process, but I updated my device and all went well.
I could ask someone else to be sure for you.

I also updated my phone to 2.3.6 no problems at all make sure you phone is fully charged just to be safe, i rooted it with PG's guide btw

This is the update i did lastnight....Well just MY luck....download froze....Now when i get my cell to come on it only comes on to a screen that has image of a cell ! & image of laptop....Said Firmware upgrade encountered an error...please try again...but for some strange reason Now my cellphone won't even show up on my computer with the USB cord...Thought it was cord so wen't and got a new one and still nothing...even tried reinstalling the Samsung drivers to my computer...didn't work...even tried uninstalling all ports then restart the computer which automatically made them reinstall lol still nothing...Samsung sent me the link with directions on how to upgrade to the 2.3.6....but when i contacted them about this issue they can not help me...Pleaseeee can someone help me...I have even tried the soft reset and hard reset and only screen i get is the one i mentioned above Thanks in advance

can you get into download mode on the phone??? thats all you need man.
off device, press and hold camera button down for 5 secs, the while still holding down plug in the cable and wait until you get the warning screen

Thanks for the reply...But unfortunately I can't get it to go the the warning screen by holding down the camera button like it did when i originally did the download....Only way I can get the cell phone to do anything is by holding the power button down a few times then I can only get the error screen that I explained above :/ Just want my phone back....feel like I am going to lose my mind lbvs!

if you cant get it into download mode then you have to go to a Metro store and tell them what happened. if you still have the warranty you can get if replaced.

Well the funny thing is I don't have a cellphone thru Metro Pcs,,,Apparently my cellphone provider is real new so it's not showing up as my carrier cuz when Samung looked it up they said Its Metro but its no my carrier is Sprocket Wireless...And I live in a small town that don't do repairs they send them off...I need my phone lol I don't know what the term "bricked" means but wondering if that's what happened since it froze during an upgrade...Maybe one of the Admins or someone who knows alot more than me will maybe see my posts lol Cuz I can't go that long without a phone...Only phone service I have lol never likes house phones....I am already having cell phone withdrawals lol

if it not metro then you probably shouldnt have tried the update lol that update is just for metro admires. and here lies the casue for the problem.

Well I told the Rep I did not have a Metro Pcs,,,I told him I had a carrier called Sprocket Wireless,,,,He said pretty much the same thing...when they looked up the serial# and IMEI or whatever its called lol He said it pulled up as Metro to do the download he sent me...But I did make sure I said I did NOT have a Metro...But the download was working but then froze and disconnected from my laptop...So not sure what went wrong but man you talk about having a headache! Wow I dont think my head has ever hurt like this lol I am usually able to fix anything but i am afraid this can't be fixed

you cant fix it yourself as your carrier isnt Metro. you would have to find a way to send the phone to Samsung so they could reprogram the phone or replace it

Well the upgrade never got a chance to download into my cellphone so im hoping the fact they sent me a link for metro pcs downloads only that since it didnt download that maybeee it wont have ruined it...I did make sure all of my chat with them got sent to my Email...Guess I am stubborn and think I can fix anything lol hate having to send a cell away for 2months and me be without...I will of done went crazy by then lol
