greetings all-

i get a seemingly random single beep every once and a while. and when i say random, i mean no notifications in the status bar. nothing. nada. zip.

i have few if any sound options selected, its not an alert or ringtone (i made all of them unique to debug).

is there any sort of event viewer in Android too see if any events night have caused the beep?

in case it matters, i am on refurb bionic #3... . I am on 905 UN rooted. i have few apps installed so there can not be that many things going on.

any tips or thoughts?

thanks.

That's how it starts, just a barely perceptable, almost inaudible beep. Then it gets louder and more pronounced until finally the voices are there, everywhere all the time.

I have found that I like most of the voices in my head. Most are really nice, but there are a few that are pretty rude. I have chosen to not listen to the rude ones. For the most part, its like walking around with a party in your head all the time. The rude ones keep telling me that my next handset should be an iPhone, but, like I said, I don't listen to them.

Cheers, (from all of us)

Not the first time I have seen questions about random sounds, and it almost always comes down to an app the person installed making a noise or something like that. Also a common one is that I think the emergency alerts or whatever it's called that's built into the stock rom can make noises too without always issuing a notification. Do you have any weather apps installed? Any other messaging apps other than stock? Worst case scenario, back up whatever contacts/pictures/data you need and factory reset the phone.

I wasn't making light of your problem. When your phone does unexpected and unexplainable stuff, it can really be annoying.

Powerbomb probably has hit the nail on the head. As for my Bionic, I tried the Emergency Alert app just to see whether it worked or not and it makes an obnoxious sound when it goes off, but I'm sure that can be changed. It does, however, place an indicator in the app tray. Before doing a factory reset, you may want to go app by app and check the settings and see it they have a notification section. If you end up doing a factory reset, install your apps one at a time until you find the culprit. I'm sure these aren't the kind of answers you want, but without actually holding your phone, its hard to diagnose things like that.

phone is 3rd refurb from vzw. it is stripped. i an reinstalling my apps one at a time.the previous 2 phones did not do this with all my apps installed.Cc

i am basically stock 905. i have already reset the phone since i got it. i am re-installing and re-configuring everything.

the apps i have installed are tapatalk, kindle, app backup and restore, gps status, dolphin browser, google voice, sipdroid, foxfii, Amazon appstore. where is my Droid. gesture search.

none seem to have any sound settings.

I never thought of checking the other apps- the ones I don't use our touch. there is a lot of crap on these phones- slacker, Motoprint, slacker, blockbuster.

@OP,

Based on your last post, I have an idea. You listed FoxFi as one of the apps that you have installed. FoxFi is an AWESOME app, by the way. When FoxFi has Hotspot turned on, it gives a beep whenever someone tries to attach to the hotspot. In playing with this, if you have WiFi set to never sleep and you leave your hotspot turned on all the time, you would get beeps every time someone (or something) tried to attach to the device. My son has an iPod and when we are out I will enable the Hotspot on FoxFi so he can hit the web with it. When in public, with other folks around, it is quite common to hear that little beep sound because someone is trying to connect. This may not be your issue, but its worth looking into. I keep my hotspot protected with a WPA passphrase to keep other folks off.
