I dropped my evo in the toilet

hahahahaha

...HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

leave it in the rice bag for 12 hours, then use compressed air to blow out any remaining water, THEN let it sit in a dry place with some moving air for awhile, probably 2-4 hours.

do NOT use a hair-dryer. do NOT leave it in the sun. do not put it anywhere humid or it wont dry at all.

it might sound like a long time to wait BUT its way way way better than trying to turn it on now and shorting out something inside the phone and breaking it forever.

IF at the end of all that waiting for it to dry, it still doesnt work. your basically SOL.

unless you have some kind of damage insurance or that best buy warranty thing.

virgin has NO obligation to replace a phone that you spilled into water, you can call them but do not lie because a simple inspection will show it has water damage.

I know I laughed at you, but don't feel too bad, I myself have a very similar reason for not bringing phones in the restroom anymore as well :D

I just dropped my evo in the toilet I dried it with paper towel and wont turn on. I took the battery off and put it in ziplock back covered with rice. If this doesnt work can I return it to Virgin Mobile for replacement?

I'd take it out of the bag and just have it sit directly in the rice. This has always worked for me.

Do not get turning on the phone for 24 hours. If you try to turn it on while it is wet you could fry the whole thing.

Do NOT USE a hair dryer or any other heat on the phone.

I was camping the last weekend and I left my phone on the picnic table. It rained hard for 3 hours. The next morning I turned it on and been using it since. No issues. I was very lucky. Also left My Provari right next to it. (A high end electronic cigarette that costs $170 dollars.) I was double lucky the electronics are fine on both.

After putting it in rice overnight i was able to turn it on everyting looks ok no sign of water on screen (maybe having a trident aegis case helped). I immediately turned it off and put in a bag until tomorrow. Is it advisable to buy a replacement battery even though its working just to avoid leakage in the future?

yes, its a very good idea to buy a new battery. its such an important component. you dont want to rely on yours just hoping its good.

I just bought a spare EVO 3D battery off ebay. it was 2.99 (yes, stupid cheap) and it got shipped to me in 5 days, even from china.

since the battery is so stupidly cheap, just get it, cheap insurance.

and when it finally comes in, test EVERY. SINGLE. FEATURE. of the phone.

water can ruin the autofocusing elements of the cameras, it can completely ruin the microphone and speaker elements inside the phone.

use an audio recording app and record your voice via the mic and see if it sounds clear or muffled, you dont want muffled. worst case is it doesnt work at all.

also record video and test the autofocus and everything else.

if theres anything that doesnt work. well. that sucks, i still dont think itd be eligible for replacement becuase of the water damage. if its not too bad youll just have to live with it.

I bought a smartphone 8 years ago that thad been dropped in water from eBay. The phone came in a non-working state and I paid something like $10 for it. We lived in CA at the time and so I left it on the deck (in full sun) for 10 hours while I charged the battery. After 10 hours, I inserted the battery and was completely shocked when it booted up. I immediately took out the Sprint $5 insurance, back in those days they actually called the phone # to make sure the phone could receive a call etc.
I used that phone for 2 yrs with zero problems. Unfortunately, one day I sat down on the phone with keys in my pocket and that was the end of the screen. Sprint sent me a refurb as I was insured ;)

There is hope - sometimes these devices defy the laws of physics.
