Root What's your preferred mod for the Prevail?

As you said, opinion and taste !! Everyone likes it different ! ;)

I like CTMod with Koumakernel and DATA option enabled. But soon, I'll try cm7 and the 187MoD on my second Prevail to see how they work for me.

Here are all the ROM's listed :

Samsung Galaxy Prevail: All Things Root Guide (updated 09/29/2012)

Thanks, I agree, I like CTMod with Koumakernal also, I guess I just got a little tired of it. I liked MokeeMod but too may fixes, that at the time I wasn't able to do, and Lewa is a bit spontaneous. Thanks!

I prefer cm7... I've tried everything that has been released for this phone but i always end up finding my way back to cm7.

I just love having all the options at my finger tips. It's so customizable and the only bug it has its that you can't send mms while connected to wifi. (But the simple solution is to just turn off wifi, send the pic and turn out back on)

There are just so many options. Virtually every aspect can be customized quickly and efficiently. If you like to tinker, and quickly get bored with your phones appearance, cm7 is right up your alley... If your the set-it-and-forget-it type, you may prefer ctmod.

I have a foolproof 5-zip installation method.
ROM (duh)
Katokernel (oc & governors)
Theme chooser (for choosing themes :p)
Adreno driver update (faster/smoother graphics)
Banner remover (removes the annoying 'roaming indicator off' text)

So fast, so smooth, so custom :)

i do like cm7 for its various customization's and how it has quick response. But the rom i would most prefer is ctmod 3.68 its stable and works on point never had a problem with this 3.68 update from the 3.6 ctmod when google chrome used to force close after saving a image or using it after a long period of time. to me they were both made very well but CTmod works out for me:five::five::five:

I spent around 14 months on the Prevail and tried every ROM posted I think.

In the end I found CTMod 3.68 my favorite. The Prevail has limited resources and the bare-bones nature of CTMod made the most when combined with KoumaKernal. Also CTMod was great on battery life while CM7 was bad for the battery.

All the Prevail developers - from shabbypenguin to Bloodawn - have my thanks for making the Prevail a thing of beauty while I learned what Android was all about.

Don't forget about Hroark13 - POW-MIA, we miss you. ;):D

CTmod or CM7. CM7 is what I mainly ran and is what I put on the phone for my buddy that bought it. The only reason I did that was because I knew I would be able to work on it for him

If I knew I wasn't gonna be able to have access to the phone, I would have put CTmod on it because it's the most stable ROM for the Prevail Imo. :D

I actually had to stop using CTMod because it was extremely unstable. For me, it gets to the point where I can't answer calls and everything's force closing. I even basically stopped installing anything new to a fresh CT install just to keep it as clean as possible. I don't know what about it inevitably leads to all this crashing.

JoyMod 1.0 is, on the other hand, EXTREMELY stable for me. However, it has a few shortcomings that are pretty annoying. The default keyboard loves.to.turn spaces.into.periods for some terrible.reason. And it doesn't work in landscape mode with the messenger app. Wifi doesn't work sometimes, and the espier browser is INCREDIBLY slow and unstable. Other than that, it is snappy as hell, beautiful, and never crashes.

Menuet, I got to where I could operate CTMod with my eyes closed, but the only issue I ended up having was my dialer, during a call, would fade into gray and I couldn't hang up or use the dial pad. I would have to just pull the battery. So far, I am loving CM7, off and on it will lag just going to main screen or menu but as of now, no other issues. I thought about the JoyMod but I m not a fan of the operation of the iphone. I may try that mod one day if I get bored and decide to change again (which with me being a girl, that will more than likely happen. lmao)

wetbiker, I do love it so far, and with the tons of extra settings, I have no clue what to do with them cause if I fiddle with them, I'm sure I'll screw something up. But LordVincent has been helping and guiding me through a lot of things. The 2 of yall are good with instructions. Lol And yes, Hroark really did!

Good for you!! When I want to try something, I just make a backup, then try different things and if it messes up just restore back to where you left off before trying something new. If it works out then make a new backup. you can rename the backups as long as you use no spaces. This comes in handy if something works good at first and messes up later, then you can revert back to before you tried that. Just a tip to help out.

AprilThe20th, how did it go?

its not complete... biggest bug being that the camera doesnt work because we dont have the proper drivers for it. other than that its fairly stable...(a few small glitches that are noted in the op) the camera seems to be a deal breaker for a lot of people...( i know i enjoy taking pictures. )

Oh, I'm not planning on changing any time soon, I was just curious, as you know. lol

Speaking of backups, I'm curious, I was doing a backup on my sister's phone last night, tried 3 times and it never completed. I don't remember the message exactly but basically, the boot image wasn't backing up. She has the Boot Animation Changer app on her phone, and chose one of those, could that be why?

I wouldn't think that app would stop a cwm backup. I use several apps that have abootani changers and they have never interfered with a backup. Hmmm, don't t know exactly what could be the problem without first knowing the error message

I will have her attempt to make another backup in a little bit and get the message exactly.

I have had 187Mod in the longest.

Recently switched to CM7 (I tried it last of them all, except CM9 which I don't think is ready for me)

CM7b5 gave me working bluetooth keyboard, it's not as quick opening apps, but they run just as fast as in 187Mod once they do load...

As everyone will tell you, try them all... it does not take that long once you have Root, CWM, and your first kernel and Mod installed. (I leave all of the zip files in the root of a microSD card so I can switch any time I like now)

Find what you like best, but more importantly, research first to see if any of the Mods you might try have a broken feature you care about or another reason to try a different Mod first... and check back often, these Mods get updates pretty frequently.

Eventually you will likely settle on one or two mods you like best.

I advise you dig deep and read everything posted about any Mod or theme you intend to try... make sure you understand pluses and minuses, and which Mods work (best) with which kernels and what types of partitions need to be on the microSD card (and what sizes) for best experiences.

Also, if you experiment and try a combination nobody has written a thread about, please share your experiences.

Hope this helps someone.
