Why android tablets continue to suck

Lets tone it down just a little. I agree that Apple products are a bit pricey. I can also agree wholeheartedly that Apple, as a company, acts really messed up. Their suit against HTC, their use of DRM, and their walled garden approach all raise red flags to me. But... they make good hardware and excellent software. It is easy to see that many Android features were inspired by iPhone features. I posit that if it were not for competition from the iPhone, Android would be vastly different and inferior to its current form.

I "posit" that you are not psychic. If it hadn't been Apple, someone else would have done it. Apple isn't innovative--they're just good at polishing ideas that already exist (and which belong to someone else, for that matter) and marketing them in such a way as to make their customers feel good about themselves. That's it.

I repeat: speak for yourself. I don't need/want and have never needed/wanted Apple products of any sort. This isn't born out of just being anti Apple douchebaggery; it's simply that I. Don't. Need. Them. PC? I game on mine and the so-called "superior" Mac hardware is shit for that--garbage specs, garbage GPU, garbage everything: shiny plastic has never made a computer perform better. iPhone? Its only advantage is the app store, which I don't care for; its other advantage that it's toddler-friendly--and hey, I'm not a toddler. The iPad? I don't want a tablet to begin with, much less one as crippled as a piece of shit that can't even multi-task. And so on, and so forth. You don't need to be a Google fanboy (or Microsoft fanboy, or whatever) to dislike/have no use for Apple.

Speak for yourself. I don't envy douchebag Apple fantards.

Wasn't it Newton who said "If I have seen a little further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants."

Would somebody else have come up with many of the innovations present in the iPhone? It seems very likely that they would have. But the company that did come up with those ideas was Apple. If Apple hadn't, perhaps Samsung would have made an iPhone like product in 2008, or perhaps we would still have WM 5.5 as the best mobile OS (*shiver*).

Despite their apparent douchebagery, they continue to make good products. Take off your hater goggles for ten seconds and actualy look at the iPad. Read the review by Mosberg, check out the video tour. It is going to be a good product for many functions. (Yes it has weaknesses. No, it's not perfect.)

I said earlier that many good features in Android are derived from the iPhone. Why not take cues from the iPad to make an even better Android product? Would you rather we all bury our heads in the sand while chanting "Tablets suck, they will go away soon! Tablets suck, they will...."

Incorrect. Android was in development 2 years before iphone, and iphone ideas from android, palm, winmo, and symbian. So they didn't innovate a damn thing. Nothing. Nada. Zipo. Everything the iphone is known for came from somewhere else. The ipad? Crap. Who wants to spend $500 on and completely limited pos. Oh I know, lemmings.

Since when has apple made good hardware? Is that why they couldn't keep up and switched to intel chips? Why they're graphics cards are second rate at best? And the bloatware known as itunes is actually a good media player? No, itunes is a store front that can play mp3s. Winamp and wmp are much better options. Noone has passed up winamp yet. Not for pur media playback.

Now I feel *most* people truely d not have a need or want for a tablet. Something your going to carry around and if you drop it oops there goes my $800 in textbook software? Give me a break. Tablets at best, are a niche item, and always will be. The only viable use would be a pmp, which would have to be at least half the size of ipad.

Take off your Apple envy for half a second. Check this out: some people don't share your wants/needs. Some people don't see a use for the iPad. Revolutionary concept, I know, but do give it a try. No, not everyone turns green at the sight of Apple products. It's a simple fact. Provided even the cognitive capability of a twelve-year-old, you should be able to comprehend it.

Got it yet? Or would you like me to boil it down to monosyllables?

Tablets do suck. They're currently a niche product. Will this change? Maybe, but right now you've got netbooks. You've got laptops. You've got smartphones. Why do I want to carry around a tablet exactly, never mind one that can't do Flash, that doesn't do e-ink, that doesn't multi-task, that doesn't run real games because the specs are too shit? (Sorry, iPhone games aren't "real games." You can attend your WoW raids or similar from a cheap laptop, yes even one that costs around $500. Can you do the same on an iPad? No? Didn't think so, what with it having a measly 1 GHz processor and running on a stripped-down, crippled OS.)

Do you, by the way, even realize that your thread subject makes shit-all sense? How can Android tablets "continue to suck" when no Android tablets are even commercially available? Is this the infamous Mactard logic?

I really wish that Google, or somebody else, would put in the time necessary to make the productivity software that larger Android devices so desperately need. Google Docs needs an overhaul/upgrade, this would be the perfect opportunity to pull add some smaller screen enhancements.

Wait, are there even any Android tablets available yet? I haven't seen any for sale. As such, it seems a bit premature to talk about the lack of productivity software for devices that don't exist yet.

Until then, we can enjoy our phones, use our laptops, and secretly envy our friends who still buy Apple products.

ehm, speak for yourself indeed. Actually I'm pretty sure you are the oh so proud owner of plenty Apple products, and come here ust to see if Android really is a better OS than the iPhone OS, and make sure we don't secretly "admire" Apple products and just can't afford them. Well....WRONG! Epic fail, as a matter of fact.

I am at this very moment a not so proud owner of an iPhone 3G. And I'm getting myself the HTC Desire now because the iPhone just can't give me the options I like on a phone. Sorry, but iPhones are mostly for people that don't know that much about smartphones, and for fanboys ofc.

Holy shit, five inches qualifies as a tablet now? Really? What's the HD2 or the upcoming Evo then, mini-tablets?

Do you realise that over half those arguments apply to the wildly popular category of products known as netbooks (I bolded them).

Which happen to be much cheaper than an iPad and can do most of the things an iPad can't and has a semi-useable keyboard instead of the abomination that comes on the iPad's screen (yes, dear, even some of the reviews you so adoringly referred to thought the iPad keyboard was shit). Better app selection too, actually, considering many netbooks run Windows. Next?

It takes a bold person to proclaim that Apple isn't innovative, and that the iPhone didn't influence current smartphone designs. I almost wrote a few paragraphs supporting my position, but it's pointless. You either agree with me already, or you never will.

You mean it takes a bold person to have the temerity--oh, the sheer nerve of it--to state that they're not jealous of Apple owners, which you insist everyone must be? Sit down and reread some of your own dreck. You might begin to see why people are lambasting you.

Well, you started yourself by saying that we envy Apple tablet, Android tablet sucks and whatnot (read your first post).

That's why you got this kind of reaction.

Why would you write like that in Android forum?

Come on, you should be a bit intelligent to figure that out.

Stop rationalizing? Are you saying that you are not thinking rationale?
No wonder ...

Stop rationalizing, and start realizing that instead of blindly hating Apple and their products we should tell Google to kick it up a noch. I know we all love the Android development team and all the app makers who support our platform. But their egos aren't that fragile. Telling that that we expect more will probably result in a better product, not mass developer suicides.

1.) Still no mention of apple "innovations"

2.) Your obviously blinded by the Steve Jobs kool aid.

The only people buying ipads are lemmings.

3.) People who disregard flash have NO understanding of what it is, what it is capable of, what it does, and so on.

Flash also runs just fine on EVERY machine except apple crap. Because of steve jobs, not because of flash. Also, the majority if not all people coming against flash are mactards, and have no understanding of the subject.

You obviously have no technical background so everything you have posted thus far is fabricated misinformation.

Anything an ipad can do, an android tablet can do, and do it better.

You cannot win against logic.

Your obviously blinded The only people buying ipads are lemmings, like you. You obviously have no technical background so everything you have posted thus far is fabricated garbage.

Anything an ipad can do, an android tablet can do, and do it better.

I really hope you are not representative of the whole of the android community. I mean, you are probably just a vocal outlier. Either way, I am unjoining this community and I will continue to lurk for the good technical support and app advice available in the phone specific forums.

For the moment, I'll just delete this thread.
