Since the announcement of the merge with T mobile and metro i been at, lost on what to do.

The cdma gets shut down in 2015 and i want a galaxy s 3 but i feel that it's no point because it would only work for two years.

My $55 unlimited may not be there anymore and I'm worried about that as well.

Also the lg optimus g is coming out and it seems to be as good as the s3 lol

I mean I'm glad that e would have better.coverage and phones but i guess I'm mostly concerned about the cdma network and the monthly plan.

Maybe I'm just thinking too much :/

the S3 isnt gonna be the best phone on the market in 3 months yet alone 3 years. thats how android works. a better phone comes out every 3-4 months.

what they do to those on the $55 plan remains to be seen but you dont need to wory about that for at least another 6 months.

thew Lg optimus g on paper is better than the S3. not dramatically better, but better.

im gonna be holding on to the Lg motion for an extended period of time and see how this thing shakes out.

Just ask yourself this. Are you REALLY going to be using the SGSIII for TWO YEARS? The best idea ever is to at maximum, stay with a phone for 1 year and then sell it off to buy the next big thing. But I guess that's just me...

Don't forget, the GSIII is an LTE phone, and that is the whole reason that T-mobile wanted Metro in the first place. If you get this phone now, and plan on keeping it, it'll still be good 2 or more years from now.

(on Straight Talk "AT&T" I get 5-7mbps). T-Mobile's HSPA+ is up to twice and fast as Metro's LTE. (Straight Talk "T-Mobile" gets up to 12mbps).

In 1, 2, 3 years you will still have a fully functioning SIII and can always come back to "T-mobile PCS" -- which is still going to be "T-mobile". The MetroPCS name is going away as are all Metro stores near T-Mobile stores. Keep in mind fuzzy why get an hspa phone now once lte rolls than you will be in the same position as cdma I will get my s3 use it for 2 years and then get a lte /Hspa phone i believe tmobile and metro are a good combination

Also , they said T-Mobile was focusing on dumping GSM and go for 3G. But that eventually both T mobile and metropcs main goal is for a nation wide LTE coverage with a maximum speed , and that's a plus for both companies.

I'm new to this and sorry for posting here instead of the T-mobile forum but there wasn't a spirited/informative discussion like this over there.

It just so happens that MetroPCS and T-Mobile were to be my final my choices for a new carrier (was looking at either's $50/mo no-contract plan.) I don't need the newest, largest screen, shiniest phone on the market, just one where I can make a call, send a few texts and looked up stuff on the web while away from home. Since I have to pick up the majority of the bill of the phone on a no-contract plan, I would like to future proof myself in phone choices, maybe outside the one year some people seem to swap out phones or maybe 2 or 3 years if it doesn't break on me (I'm an old guy, creature of habit.)

Maybe I was reading it wrong but I thought T-mobile was going to migrate to LTE in 2013. It was in an article earlier in the year (2/24/2012) on extremetech.com - "T-mobile announces lte prepares to take the us wireless market by storm" (sorry new user, can't post links yet.) Things may have definitely changed since then and, like I said, I'm new to this and just trying to understand it myself with everyone's help. Also, from reading current articles, it sounds like the existing system that Metro has in place was a key reason for picking them up, or so I thought.

So, in trying to future proof myself, should I look to get a phone that can run on T-mobile (or ATT) now and have the capabilities of HSPA+ and LTE?

Please correct anything I said if it were wrong. Just want to get informed because I'm looking to make the change in the near future.

Well that's the road I would be taking but by all accounts in reading it seems as if Metro's LTE system isn't up to par speed-wise or capacity-wise yet. I was looking into phones for now AND in the future, hence the reason for asking about a phone that works on both HSPA+ and LTE.
