Replacement for cracked screen?

Hi,

This is my first posting, hoping I can get an answer to a question...My screen is cracked, the tablet got dropped, and I'm sure you can figure out the rest :-X Everything works fine, the pixels are good, I just have been browsing around the forums and it seems as though the replacement screen can be upwards of $200-300?! I'm not terribly familiar with the parts so if someone could let me know whether this is accurate or not I would greatly appreciate it. I have the 10 inch Thrive.

Also, with that being said, if I decided to go ahead and buy the part, what are the chances I can do it myself without destroying it and losing even more money?

Thank you in advance for any assistance!

Yes, you can replace the screen, please see here:

It will cost you about $160 for a new screen from Toshiba, but this is better than buying a new tablet. As for difficulty, it could take anywhere from 1-3 hours depending on how you go about it.

This is the best tutorial I have found, and strongly recommend reading through it COMPLETELY before continuing.

best of luck to you! =)

Screen Replacement
Toshiba H000032910 - 10.1" WXGA LCD Screen Replacement for Toshiba Thrive

Digitizer / Touch Screen Replacement
H000036130 - Toshiba Thrive AT105-T108 Tablet Top Case Assembly Touch Screen Digitizer Replacement Glass

Unfortunately, I had to purchase both of them for my Thrive 16GB, I didn't want to go through the hassle of buying a new unit all together. I have all my work and personal files on my Thrive, I just had to dish out the money. A bit pricey, but you that's the price of having a tablet and not being careful.

As for the LCD, I called Toshiba and they wanted almost $300 for a replacement screen ($279 + shipping to be exact, WITH NO digitizer, only LCD)... I told them I could buy a new Thrive for that amount.. I spent $279 exactly (before shipping) and was able to get the screen and digitizer. Hope this helps anyone with a similar problem.

Yeah, sucks but what can you do? I'm already almost $600 invested in the Thrive, but I'm very happy with it.

I actually purchased one time from 1SaleADay, I purchased wireless headphones... Not only did it take over 1 month to receive the headsets, when it came, it was used (it was advertised as new). Then again, this was about 3 years ago, I don't know how they run the site now, but I did not have a good experience.

Yeah, 1saleaday is SLOW with shipping. Over in the Thrive Forums (not the official Toshiba one) there are some that got nice Thrives. Said refurb but looked brand new. Some got the "engineering" build and had to send it back to Toshiba to get the proper ROM. I just got a bluetooth keyboard that took a long time to ship but was brand new and working flawlessly. YMMV.
