Songs Purchased through Amazon not syncing with Google Music

*Sigh* What a nightmare. Galaxy Nexus running 4.0.4

Here goes:

I recently purchased a few songs using the amazon mp3 app and want them to automatically sync with google music (google play music?, google play? Whatever it is called...) however the music app shows a greyed out thumb tack next to the songs. I did some investigation and found that songs purchased through amazon are in a separate folder than songs I downloaded from google music, which are in a separate folder from songs I downloaded from ubuntu one.

I have the following questions:

1) How do I upload music purchased on my phone using the amazon mobile app to google music manager?

2) How do I tell ubuntu one to store downloaded music in the /sdcard/Music path?

3) How do I tell the amazon app to store downloaded music in the /sdcard/Music path?

4) How does the music player app know to look in directories created by amazon when displaying available music?

5) Who is the a-hole that made it so you can't specify the path you want things downloaded to?

6) Why aren't more people screaming bloody murder about how music is stored on their android phones (i.e. the chaos caused by different apps put files in different folders)?

I normally just download the songs from Amazon to my PC, and set them to a folder that is observed by the Google Music Manager so they do upload automagically. As for the phone apps, I couldn't help you.

I just noticed the other day that google music wasn't uploading amazon purchases anymore (full disclosure, I only buy MP3 from amazon now).

I have it set up to upload any new songs added to iTunes, and have my amazon downloader set up to automatically add any purchased songs to iTunes, and it used to work, but the last....4 albums I bought never uploaded to google music. Past purchases which are stored in the same place and added to iTunes just the same uploaded to gMusic, just not the last few.

Same, but mainly because they have a wider selection.

But are they downloading to a folder that Google Music is watching? Who knows, Amazon may have changed something recently which changed what folder they downloaded to (or you Google Music Manager settings got buggered up).

I'm not sure what the root cause is, but I did figure out why the most recent albums purchases were no longer getting uploaded to google music.

When the Amazon MP3 Downloader would import the songs into iTunes, it wouldn't set the location correctly. Don't know if this was amazon's fault or iTunes fault, but it's what caused google music to not upload them.

Here's what iTunes said the file location was (right click->Get Info):

\\?\C:\Music\Amazon~1\ERINFO~1\LOWERT~1\13-DOG~1.MP3

Here's what it should've been:

C:\Music\Amazon MP3\Erin Foley\Lower The Bar\13 - Dogs.mp3

I deleted the songs from iTunes, then re-imported them, and then google Music uploaded them as expected.

Not sure if this is the same problem any of you are seeing, but hopefully it helps.

I just put all the MP3s in a directory called "songs" on the phone's SD-card. With sub-directories for different artists and albums. Basically the same way I've always done it, ever since I got my first Diamond Rio MP3 12 years ago. KISS methodology.

I'm not trying to do anything complicated or elaborate, like syncing them with Google Music or Amazon Music or whatever. Because those are not available (US only I believe). In fact most people I know usually just drag'n'drop or copy and paste their MP3s onto their PMPs, phones, etc. using Windows explorer. The only exception is probably Apple iTunes and iOS devices users, who have no choice.
