Root What is needed to play newer games?

There are several new games (the foremost being Bad Piggies) that I'd like to install on my OV but which are listed as "incompatible". Is there a method or ROM or Android version (or whatever) that I can use to allow these games to be installed? My phone is already rooted, I just haven't installed any custom ROMs or newer versions of Android since rooting it, but I'm not sure if doing that would even help.

GooglePlay reads from your build prop files. Even if you are rooted, and running the latest and greatest OS, the phone will still read that you have an OV. According to GooglePlay Db, OVs only have Froyo.

Follow the instructions as listed in this link. It details how to edit the file to allow you to cange your phone make and model.

Since I'm on CM7, I went with a phone that runs GB, Nexus S. This is also used in the example. Took a few days for Play to read that my phone is no longer a V, but after it stuck, I was able to grab the apps for 2.3.7 and below.

Pretty much. It was frustrating to me that it did not update automatically. I checked back in two days logged into my account and there it was. If there are still issues try clearing the cache on the store, and reboot.

What do you mean by "logged in to your account"? I don't log into anything on my phone. Is there something that I need to log out of and then log back in to?

He means by logging out of Google Play and logging back in to refresh the data to see if Google has updated the faulty device info.

I'm afraid I don't know how to log out of Google Play. I appears to just automatically use the gmail account that I'm logged into on the phone.

Exactly. You can check it by logging into your account on a computer.

heh... here I was thinking that the mod didn't take, but it ends up, Bad Piggies isn't compatible with a Nexus S either.

I logged in on a computer and it showed my model as being a Nexus S, but it still said that game was incompatible. Now I have to figure which phone this stupid game actually works with.

Yeah, I was hoping to avoid that because I wanted the app to be able to download updates (and because this isn't the only newer game that I'd like to have access to), but it looks like this method might not be working. I found examples of reviews for the game that were posted from Nexus S users. I then tried switching to a couple other kinds of phones, but all of those didn't work either, even when those phones had reviews listed for the game, so I'm not sure that this hack is working.

Bump. I was interested to know if flashing newer roms would get past "this app is not compatible" issues. It seems the issue is more complicated than simply using a newer version of android.

I also want official google play downloads with working updates, I don't trust random android warez sites.

Does anybody have success finding a way to install previously incompatible apps through the play store?
