Help Anyone else on here do not have a Samsung Moment, and will not purchase it until 2.1

It seems like everyone on here has the Samsung Moment and want to update their Samsung Moment to 2.1.

Am I the only one constantly going on these forums waiting for the Samsung Moment to release 2.1 so I can actually purchase it? I hear a lot about issues people are having with 1.5 and I do not want to deal with it, especially coming from a reliable (not flashy, but reliable) Blackberry Pearl.

So, anyone in the same boat as me, in that they refuse to actually purchase the phone until 2.1 is out? I am not even going to purchase it until the Samsung Moment comes shipped with the 2.1 already installed.

So, anyone else?

I really doubt 2.1 is going to be the fixall that Moment owners are hoping for.

I agree 100% as much as that would be superb. I doubt 2.1 OS update will fix anything phone related other than add a few new nick-nacks. I highly doubt we will get those 3 buttons to be dedicated notifications, etc. How was is it to just add a little corner LED light to the phone..Basic stuff like that upsets me. No doubt the momen't is a great device just could have been better from the jet go, I also love using the full qwerty when I need to. But ever since i got swype well...I haven't touched it. I think the phone would of been better if we had a bigER sdx community. I know they are doing what they can tho, so no fault to them.

I'd go ahead and do it, it's only a short time off before the update hits. Also, assuming your Pearl is struggling with 4.5, the performance boost in everything but email is about 1000% better.

The bigger question for you is do you want to use the 'new phone' now or wait for the Evo or Nexus?

I don't want to wait for the Evo or Nexus as I want a real keyboard thats why I am interested in the Samsung moment as its touch screen and has a real keyboard.

The only concern I have if 2.1 helps with a lot of the issues is the e-mail. I read a lot that blackberry is much at emails. Why is that? Will I not get emails to my phone as they are sent? Getting e-mails automatically to my phone and alerting me that I have an e-mail is very important to me as I am going to use this phone for work as well as play.

So, someon break down for me why the Samsung Moment is going to be a downgrade in terms of e-mail capability as I heard that a lot without answers of why.

I have had several blackberries and they get mail pushed to them rather than pulled. Meaning, when you get a email it is sent almost instantly to the BB. When it is pulled, the phone searches for email on a specific frequency (such as every 15 minutes). I think that on some servers, BB is still pulling, but on most it is pushing. In my opinion BB still has the best email, and I've tried all of the OS's except Andriod 1.6,2.0, and 2.1, although the Moments screen makes reading them much nicer. The Moment appears to me to only be getting push email on Gmail accounts. I personally have my work email getting pulled every 30 minutes and it works fine. I have both Yahoo and Gmail accounts too. Yahoo has been working really poorly lately (I'm talking on the PC and the phone), so I decided to have my Gmail pull the mail from Yahoo and push it to my phone. Gmail is way faster (on the PC), and I'm pretty happy with it. It organizes a little different, which takes a little getting used to. I now have 2 in-boxes instead of 3, which is also nice. I have been using the Yahoo account for like 10 years and get most of my mail on that, so I don't want to ditch it.

Is the an April Fools joke or what? As long as I had a phone that was working I would wait for the better phones that will be released in a couple of months (Nexus and EVO).

Anyone that buys a Moment now is setting themselves up for some epic buyers remorse.

No, no, April Fools joke. First of all, I want a phone with a physical keyboard and those new phones don't have that. Second, could you imagine how much Sprint is going to want for the first ever 4G phone (Evo)? I bet its going to be a lot more than $99.99 that you can get the Moment for.

The Moment is still one heck of a phone if they can work out the glitches. And the Moment as an actual phone I read great things about as well.

This all depends on what you want. A new OS and 'reliability' are not guaranteed to go hand in hand. 2.1 will offer new fixes and features but may introduce new fundamental bugs. It could be argued that, in the beginning at least, a 1.5 custom kernel would be more stable than 2.1. It remains to be seen how well Sprint does with this.

On the other hand, there is nothing wrong with email in 1.5, or the stability as far as my experience goes. I have an ActiveSync account with Moxier Mail and get my email pushed instantly. There are many 3rd party programs that can handle this very nicely. GMail's free service may be just as good but I never use it so I can't comment.

Do you want tried and true, or latest and greatest? You logic isn't that clear.

I gotta say that the Moment at $100 right now isn't a bad deal. Sure it's got a bit of a lag technically speaking, but who knows what the CDMA version of the Nexus will have for issues out of the gate and even more so for the Evo. The Evo looks simply awesome on paper and display, but on a day to day usage basis, what if the battery only goes an hour between charges?

The Moment is a known device - issues and all. You know what you're getting and it's a pretty decent device. Now you will see the update pretty quick, but even with 1.5 and a few tweaks, the Moment works pretty darn good.

I recommend installing the following for best results though...
- A home screen replacement (aHome, pandaHome or dxTop are good)
- Replace the standard email with K9-Mail
- Replace the standard messaging with Handcent
- Google Voice (if you don't have a number - get on the list now!)
- Replace the stock browser with either Dolphin or Steel
- Then find a good camera program like Pro Zoom Camera 5x to replace the lack-luster stock one.

Once you're done with that, the Moment works pretty darn well and almost all those are free as well!
