So here's my obligatory first post.
Basically, I'm here because I have an Android phone: the Nexus One. Although I'm a gadget freak, I'm also fairly frugal and so I've resisted buying a smart phone for years due to not wanting the high cost of a data plan. I've had an iPod Touch since they first came out and since almost everywhere I go has wifi, I used it as a smartphone that didn't, uh, make calls. LOL
Anyway, I finally made the plunge and went with the Nexus One. Almost bought a Nokia N900 but decided against it at the 11nth hour. I still love my Touch and although it doesn't make calls, I can definitely compare it's OS to Android.
Now, the fact that Android is based on Linux makes me happy too. I'm no newbie to the *nix world. . having run FreeBSD and some flavor of Linux--mostly FreeBSD--since '98. I'm glad to be here.
