New Droid Commercials

I think those are cool commericals, but I'm not surprised...

(Keep in mind that the next iphone is being anounced in about 2-3 months, so there will no doubt be some more pushing for existing Android phones before then. Once the iphone HD gets anounced, that's the only thing you'll hear about for a while, so it makes sense that there's a big marketing push for phones that are main competitors to the iphone to sell as many as they can before Apple's anouncement.)

- The Droid is still the only high-end Android device with a physical keyboard at the moment.

- The biggest point I see being made in marketing the iphone lately are the apps. It's all about the apps. So Android/VZW is just showing that they have lots of great apps too. It's as simple as fighting fire with fire.

That's because that's the main thing the iphone has to offer; awesome apps and games (there's no denying that). But, most of their's are paid apps and Android is catching up quickly.

Other than the apps and slick UI, the iPhone doesn't really have much else to offer (unless I'm missing something). Don't get me wrong, the iPhone is an AWESOME device but it's just not for me.

I'm also glad to see some new ads. I sent an email to Motorola last week suggesting that they start promoting the Droid better. I mentioned yesterday, that CNBC was making negative comments about the Droid and Motorola.

I want to see this unit compete against the I, not go to the wayside, once V gets the toy.

DROID@!

I'm sick of the crap from AT&T about them being the only carrier with multitasking.
1st - it's the phone, not the carrier.
2nd - it's crap

no, actually it IS the carrier. Droid can multitask too, but Verizon's network is incapable of performing as AT&T does. Connect to wifi, and you can be all over the web and stuff while being on a call.

I assume you know that, and I'm just misreading your post. Perhaps you meant, it's all about the phone and who cares about the carrier... still, I care. If my phone has a function to scratch my butt, but can only do so in good 3g areas, I'm choosing a carrier with good service. I.E. not AT&T.

lol I'm just being a dick. Happy April Fools!

There is no "authoritative" info. The thing that sparked off this latest round of rumors is a company in China said they would be building (can't remember exactly) either components for, or the actual phone for Apple. They claim they are building a CDMA phone. The largest CDMA network is probably VZW worldwide, so that is why the speculation started up again...

Back on topic, I just saw the "Other Planets" commercial on TV. Pretty awesome. I'm impressed VZW is still promoting the device. Wonder how bad that will drop off once the N1/Incredible hit VZ...

What authoritative info is out that indicates that the new iPhone on Verizon will be announced in 2-3 months...last I had read it wasn't coming out until next year, and Verizon typically does not formally announce phones that far in advance of release...

Without getting too off topic, (assuming you're referring to my post) I didn't say that the CDMA iphone was coming out in 2-3 months; I said the next variant of the iphone will be anounced in 2-3 months. It's thought that it will be dubbed the "iphone HD", not the "iphone 4G", and rumored for production to start as early as September 2010. Anyway, sorry for hijacking guys...

i heard one of the new radio spots earlier this morning and i am wondering how they're saying some of the things they do. in the commercial they state you can download while surfing, run simultaneous apps while multitasking, etc. which is true.

but when they say "theres nothing the droid cant do, the droid just does." i kinda take issue with it because its somewhat misleading. in fact, the droid cannot download while surfing and talking. they tout the multitasking abilities and blatantly state that the droid can do everything. which is false. there are a few things the droid cannot do or does poorly and locks up. just the other day i was downloading 4 updates and trying to text and the phone locked up for a minute or so.

interested to see if these ads cause any issues. i know that there will be a host of new consumers who switch to vzw and droids who all of a sudden realize, the droid doesnt do everything...

Color me silly but I just don't see the next ad campaign as:

Droid. It mostly does. Sure, it has limitations and sometimes does things it's not supposed to do but hey, buy it anyway. We sort of thought it could be a great all-in-one type device but may have missed the mark a bit, maybe we left some stuff out and maybe didn't include everything under the sun...but hey, we did try. So, it may not meet all of your expectations but really, we did try and you might like it so go ahead, buy it. Oh and, Verizon is really a good network but just doesn't work everywhere and sometimes the network drops calls. It's OK though, they try too.

iPhone HD? What is supposed to be HD about it? Is Jobs finally figuring that he can't string along the faithful for another model with a Fisher Price res screen?
