You can grab "Gingerbread" keyboard from the market. It is free. If you purchase it it has more features. This is my default keyboard, and the letters are white against a greyish black background.

To empty trash on gmail, it looks like you have to tick them one by one, I haven't found a way to select all. When you first open gmail from it's app, up in the upper right hand corner you should see a "Sync" emblem. Right next to that you should see what looks like a couple of labels. Tap on that and it will bring you to all of your folders including the trash folder.

Oops, I misunderstood your first question... I see you have already found the trash folder. I just tried to delete the trash myself and can't find an option to do so.

Maybe you could log in to gmail on your stock browser, empty the trash from there, go back to the trash folder and tap the sync button in the upper right hand corner. I'm going to try that right now myself.

Just as an FYI, GMail automatically deletes trash (and spam) that is older than 30 days. I have always just left it alone and let it automatically delete. Items in trash and spam do not count against your mail storage limit.

If you really want a way to delete it on the phone, you can install the K9 mail app. Set up GMail to allow IMAP connections, and set up your gmail account in K9 using IMAP. You can set the account to not automatically fetch mail to save battery. Whenever you want to delete trash, you can go into K9, switch to the trash folder, menu->refresh the account, menu->select all to select all messages, and then menu->delete to delete them.

What I had to do is, log into my gmail account with the stock browser, scroll down to the bottom and select "Desktop". The I went to my trash folder and had to select each message down the line (There is no select all) and tapped "Delete forever".

I then checked the trash folder son my phone and it is empty. I tried doing a Google search for you but couldn't find an answer other than the way I did it.

That's been my move! lol I don't worry about the trash bin or spam. I had to try and look it up for the op and out of curiosity.

I've been deleting my Gmail trash on a PC for several years and was hoping that I could do it in the Gmail app like in the native Email app in both GB and ICS. Oh well, I'll just keep doing it on a PC.

I would still like to find a way to do white text on a dark background in Gmail, like the dark theme in the Email app. This would extend battery life.

Again, you'll probably have to find a reputable after market keyboard on the playstore. I went through four of them before I found one I liked.

Every now and then, but not very often, I have an epithany. Tonight was one of those rare occasions.

Back when I ran GB (way back earlier this week, grin), I used a third party app to manage three email accounts: Corporate Exchange and two personal Verizon accounts. I never tried it with Gmail. The app is called Enhanced Email (or, EE), and I got it some time ago from Amazon as a FAOTD. When I discovered that the stock ICS email app could handle multiple email accounts just as well as EE, I uninstalled EE.

Tonight it occurred to me that EE supports the Dark Theme, as well as Select All and Delete. What if EE could handle my Gmail account? I installed it, configured it for Gmail (including delete from server), set the Dark Theme, opened the Folder List, selected Trash, hit Select All, and hit Delete. Walla! Everything worked perfectly.

Now really inspired, I decided not to stop while I was on a role. So I loaded a new Folder Organizer (FO) item widget and configured it to run the EE app. Then I opened FO and cleverly renamed the widget as Gmail and changed the icon to the original Gmail app icon. My final step was to go into Settings/Display and set the font size to Small so that all home screen fonts would match FO.

Bottom Line: I now have a new Gmail app that looks like I want it to look and does what I want to do, exactly how I want it to be done. I only wish that my employees were like this.
