Rooted Devices and the Buy Back program?

For those that are rooted, do you unroot your phones before taking it back to Sprint in the Buy back upgrade program or just reset your device and thats it?

I'm getting the Note 2 but will be taking my Photon and the AT&T Note 1 to Sprint for the program. Both are rooted, Photon has a rom the Note does not. So I am unsure whether if I need to unroot them or just Factory reset?

Thanks for any info.

I had heard that SPRINT doesn't care if it's rooted or not.Had an OG EPIC as a loaner phone from BEST BUY for a few days a few weeks ago, shoulda rooted-ROMMED it just for the heck of it (Lord knows it needed it for A2SD,no internal storage to speak of).

Lol as far as buy back I don't think sprint cares, but if you take it in for repairs, that's a whole different story. They won't even touch it until its unrooted.

The odds are that Sprint will be restoring them back to stock, and shipping those devices off to Asurion for scrap parts. Personally, I wouldn't waste time restoring back to stock myself. Let them handle the dirty work. You just reap the benefits of a new device :)

Exactly, isn't like sprint is willing or is going to pay a reasonable amount anyway

Correction, those buy back prices were from last week, this week its $63 for the photon and $145 for the Note1. :(

I better hurry up before they end up being $0.00

and yeah, i know i can probably sell them on ebay, swappa, etc for a higher price but I really hate doing that.

I actually just (unintentionally) picked up a brand new White (Sprint) SGS3 16GB from eBay for $365. Going to hold onto my 3VO foreverrrrrrrrr!

This isn't true. Sprint will look at a rooted phone regarding repairs. Obviously it depends on the kind of repairs, but the techs root their phones too and openly talk about it. At least that's my experience and I"m pretty sure you won't be able to find anything official that says Sprint will not service a rooted phone.

They will work on rooted devices, but they will have to restore it back to stock prior to any maintenance.

I hate it too. It takes time to properly list items on ebay to sell. And sometimes, I don't want to be bothered. So I just take the lower buyback amount.

You will have to lower the price for shipping expenses and ebay/paypall will take their cut out of the profit as well.

With Craigslist you have to deal with people who waste your time and have no intention of really buying the phone.

That's odd. Maybe some stores operate differently than what they are supposed to? Who knows..
Might be. Depends if it is a Corporate store or a store offering Sprint devices. both have repairs dept but the non-Sprint store sends the bill to Sprint.

I actually found out tonight that the Sprint locator shows all stores. The ones that are Sprint corporate only have "Sprint Store" in the name, if it has something else attached to the name then it is not a corporate store.

Explains why I had the issue yesterday when the (non) Sprint store couldn't get into my account, but the corporate one could.
