We have thoroughly tested it and have put in every precaution we can to help prevent the unthinkable, but this is still on you if something goes wrong. ;)

THIS WILL BREAK BLUETOOTH

We all hate EULA (I know) But YOU HAVE TO READ THIS ONE!
(Its in the script)

Oh, and read the readme.

OK folks, finally after countless hours of research, testing, and scripting, we have a unlocked bootloader for ICS.

This uses the bootchain from GB with tdm's 3.0.8 kernel for cm9, and several tweaked files from the Spectrum's ICS itself.

People to Thank

The whole team really!! ;)

Neph
- countless hours of digging and pulling files and figuring out how to undo LG's black magic.

tdm - for his awesome 3.0.8 kernel and input.

death2all110 - working with Neph and designing the sleek batch file for windows install

PlayfulGod - for the bash script for the Linux/OSX install

JCase - For his assistance and input

Whats this do?

  • Installs root
  • Installs the unlocked bootloader from gingerbread
  • Installs CWM Touch 6.0.1.1
  • Checks the md5sum (twice) on each image before flashing them to verify their integrity

Requirements

  • Be on the ZV7 OTA or cab.
  • This is to ensure you get the new radio(s)
  • This has not been tested on Gingerbread nor supported for GB.

How to Install

This is for WINDOWS ONLY. PlayfulGod has posted the Linux/OSX one here:
http://androidforums.com/spectrum-a...oot-cwm-lg-spectrum-4g-ics-linux-install.html

  1. Download & unzip file listed below
  2. Make sure you keep everything together in the bootloader folder. Don't even rename it.
  3. Connect Phone to PC via USB cable
  4. Have debugging enable on your phone
  5. Have phone in Internet connection mode
  6. Navigate to the unzipped folder you downloaded
  7. Run the bootloader_pwn.bat

Download

SpectrumPwnageTool.zip

For people having issues with the above zip:
SpectrumPwnageTool.exe (Installer)
SpectrumPwnageTool.exe on VirusTotal

Note: The above .exe has the same scripts as the zip does, just installs the scripts to the C:\ drive where it should always work, if not its your computer...

One thing i found, don't just stick it on your desktop. only place I got it to work was if i put the bootloader folder in C:\

Idk if that's common knowledge or not but there it is.

I had that same problem. After running this, I was able to use ROM Toolbox to boot to recovery and make a CWM Backup, however...

Once I installed the unlocked bootloader, I could not get the phone to be recognized but my PC. Reloaded drivers, rebooted PC, rebooted phone, mass storage, internet connection, debugging on/off... nothing. The ONLY way my PC would recognize the phone was to reboot and put it in "download mode", which I'm using now to re-flash the stock V7 cab.

UPDATE: Weird. I thought that reflashing the cab would have done a complete wipe, but all my apps are installed and as they were. The only thing I appear to have lost was root access. But at least I can access the phone though the USB cable.

[UPDATE #2} Tried it again with the same result (definition of insanity).

I ran this from my desktop just fine. I also ran it twice just to be sure on two different phones. It does not even require admin access to use.

Reboot your phone with it plugged into the computer. Occasionally it will not be recognized if you just try plugging it into the PC. I found this happens most often when your battery is already topped off.

I put bootloader folder in C:/ and ran normally. No reboot on completion and I got errors on the last part of the bat where it tries to clean up after itself (unable to remove /something/something).

Since I wasn't sure if it worked (errors and all) I downloaded Rom Manager and upon opening it, it said I had CwM 6.0.1.1 installed!

Currently in CWM making a backup (using .tar format). Success!

Thank you devs for all of your hard work! :highfive:

Then extract it to C:\..... is it that much of a problem? Also. This doesn't touch the data partition at all. So I know it didn't wipe the apps.

its the stock recovery. every time you enter it it removes apps under /data app

Bones, were you running this from XP, Vista, 7 or 8?

xp... didnt work the first 2 trys for me... probably because it wasnt under C:/ but playfulgods linux script worked perfect

I had this same issue also with usb not working at all and had to do a .cab restore. Though I did the linux version. Also pulldown menu didn't say Verizon anymore. Anybody have this also?

Issue already responded to:
http://androidforums.com/spectrum-a...r-pwnage-tool-lg-spectrum-4g.html#post5137892

As for the pulldown menu, mine say T-CDMA-64 now. Minor glitch and most likely something in framework not completely jiving with our kernel. Minor bugs that will hopefully get resolved in the near future, but current priorities are Bluetooth and getting wifi tethering working.
