LG Spectrum ICS Update Bugs/Issues Thread

So although I thought my problems were solved, apparently they aren't. My phone still doesn't detect a USB cord being attached to it (other than the "slow charge" state); I've successfully pushed the .cab, done multiple factory resets, and although it might connect to my computer once after the reset, all subsequent attempts do not work. I've also tried plugging my phone into other computers, and the phone still doesn't recognize that it's connected to a computer. No apps are disabled or frozen, it's set to "Mass Storage" for default, it's not set to ask for connection type, and debugging mode is enabled.

Any suggestions at all? It seems like it's a driver problem, but specific to my phone (my wife's phone works fine).

While I was reading your post I was sitting here thinking that I would uninstall all the lg drivers and software off the computer and reinstall, but then your end statement that your wifes phone works kind of blew a hole in my theory. I would still try it though.

Reset your phone with the cable attached to the computer. There is a glitch where the phone doesn't always turn on adb when the battery is at 100%, but it does turn on adb when the phone starts. I will be adding this comment to the master thread.

Hey BigKahuna, I'm glad your phone is finally acting right since I know you've had so many issues with yours since you've owned it. I was curious if your voice call have improved since that is one of the advertised updates.

Haven't really been able to test voice quality. Or haven't had any comments. I'll ask my wife, she's the biggest complainer. I probably talk to her as much as anyone else. But even people I don't know, are constantly asking me to repeat myself on the Spectrum. I'll definitely pay attention and see if the complaints and "say whats" go down in number.

So far everything is good. It's like having a new phone.

i didnt see anything about this but is anyone experiencing random restarts when trying to do certain things. i.e. searching in the play store or killing apps in advanced task killer or apps like that. ive been getting it about every 20 minutes when actually using apps. its annoying and i used to have this with GB but not nearly as often and when doing more complicated things. i updated with the .cab from v6 because other methods wouldnt work and am rooted with very minimal apps installed and nothing frozen or tweaked yet.

Get rid of advanced task killer. You're more then likely doing more harm then good. You've got two sets of task killers going (atk and the internal one that has been built into android since froyo). It's like running two anti-virus's on your computer at the same time. Yeah, it may work and make you feel safe, but it's doing havoc on your system and it's resources.

If you really want to tweak how long apps stay around go to settings -> developer options - background process limit and change it there.

Thanks for the info neph. i was aware that there was a built in task killer but didnt think of it like running two AV programs. Ill remove it and see how the phone behaves. definitely did make me feel warm inside having both and i always left the auto kill feature off. hopefully this is the cause of my random reboots and ill post again once ive had some time with it, to let you know if it seems solved.
also ive had issues with the lite version and pro version of rom toolbox suddenly stopping while using it. at this point i removed but do you think this is related?

So, my phone was working fine and I probably wouldn't have even bothered with the update but my notification alarm went off at like 3 or 4 in the morning and kept going off repeatedly and I couldn't get it to stop so I blame not being fully awake for my decision to capitulate and hit ok when it told me to update the phone. I haven't noticed any big differences in the last couple of days other than one. My ringtones are random. I had customized ringtones for various people and my work. They were completely mixed up by the update so I said, "No big, I'll fix them." I went through and reset everything to the way I wanted and it worked fine, until I had to turn the phone off to reset my unresponsive bluetooth (a problem I had before the update). It re-randomized my set ringtones again. Also, it is constantly (before and after the update) asking me which app I want to be the default for "this activity" I always check the box and choose what i want and I swear I have to do that about 25% of the time when I want to open a web browser. Anyone else with this problem? I was using Zedge app for my ringtones.

This sounds like database corruption. As much as I hate to say it, you're probably looking at a factory reset. The more we get into this V7 build, the more it feels like it was rushed. On that note thou, you're going 2 full product cycles up in one swing. Bugs are known to happen, it just sucks how many we're running into on a daily basis.

This slow charge crap is killing me. Yesterday my battery ran down to about 23% so I plugged it in to the oem cable and charger to an AC outlet and left it alone (please note I have a 3800 mAh battery), 5 hours later I grabbed my phone to head out and it was at 67% battery. I had only added about 12 apps to it since flashing the official ICS .Cab, all utility apps. This morning, without using my phone, or even turning the screen on, the battery has lost 7% in an hour.

I said it before, and I'll say it again, I can not wait until aokp is working!

Fyi Samsung will give you a $100 gift visa card for your spectrum if you buy a GS3 or note 2. Gazelle and Verizon will give you $66, not that I am, but I did check...

For those of you guys getting a slow charge message, blow out the usb connection port on the phone and the charger and you'll notice a faster charge time. I got this message and used an air gun at work to fix this, but just blowing in it a few times should resolve these issues. Someone else passed this along to me in a different thread.

My ring tones also kept changing, finally figured out it was my profiles in Volume Ace. You have to go in and set the ring tones in there. I used it before and didn't have a problem, maybe it's a new feature or only works on ICS...

Hi can anyone help me. I took the ota update and now the wifi seems to automatically turn on even though i manually turn it off. I think this is killing my battery. Help???
I asked this somewhere else. It looks like as long as there is a network close enough detect, it'll turn on. That being said, from what I gather, it doesn't actually use that much power. Much less than data does. The only way to keep it off is airplane mode.

Go to wifi in settings, press the button to the left of the home button and click advanced. Make sure 'keep wifi on during sleep' is set to always. That will keep you connected, even while the phone is in standby.

I had this problem BEFORE the update. Now my ring/notification tones stay set.

ok. ive factory reset multiple times and tried many different situations where the phone has nothing installed or some apps or a lot of apps, also while using a system app or a user app or just trying to create shortcuts on the home screen. the phone is rooted and on stock home. during all of the different situations ive mentioned i have had tons of random reboots. it seems like anytime the phone has to think a little it will get overloaded and shut down. not usually for the same things everytime it happens but sometimes it is back to back to back and sometimes i get some good fun use out of a game or an app and it doesnt do it at all. factory resetting just isnt fixing this at all. any suggestions?

In your situation, I would power down the phone.
I would remove the SIM card, the microSD card, and the battery.

I would insert all three.

I would boot back up, I'd take everything off the microSD card I wanted to keep.

I would do a format of the microSD card using the FORMAT option of the phone (do not use a PC).

I would reboot the phone.

I would see if you have any random reboots after that. Only if I were sure of no random reboots would I start adding applications back onto the device.

If I saw random reboots, I suppose I would a) ask VZW for a replacement SIM card, and b) try a different microSD card in the phone.

These things would never have crossed my mind. I really appreciate the advice because at this point I have tried many things and researched many forums and sites. I will be sure to try the first suggestion and see how that goes over the next day or so. If that doesn't work, I will be giving verizon a call about the SIM and trying one of my other SD cards that didn't come with the phone. It does seem like the SD I'm using can be a little quirky or atleast has been once and a while in the past. I'll post back my results so if someone else is plagued by this they know to take these steps. And thanks for responding. I was starting to wonder if I was the only one who had this(obviously not) after the update(and sometimes before).
