Well thats all folks....

Switching some things around with my phones, and looks like I am going to pick up the GSIII...

I will be giving my phone to my daughter, so i will poke in from time to time...

but that samsung phone just has WAYYY to many positive things..

its been a good time over here and i have learned a ton...

Thanks

As the title states, this phone & everyone here has made the OG MO'PHO experience a memorable one.

However,in light of recent events regarding the future of development & upgrades for the PHOTON,I too have moved on to the SGS III.

For those who have purchased the PHOTON @ BEST BUY:

If you are wanting a way out & want to get something else w/little to no money out of pocket, take your phone in to BB for warranty service.

Odds are they will not have another refurb to exchange & will/may offer you a RAPID EXCHANGE,meaning they will apply full retail value of the PHOTON towards another phone.( 0 out-of-pocket expense for the pleasure to trade-up,glad I went w/BEST BUY ).

Make sure this is the route you want to take,as I'm not sure you can get your old handset back, once it has been shipped out for exchange/repair.

Also, this option may vary from store to store,so results may vary, but, this is the path I've chosen & I'm not looking back,THIS SGS III ROCKS!

Did you buy the Geek Squad coverage? Forgot to ask you that.

Yes sIr,along w/the BUY BACK program (which has been changed recently, just now finding out about that, more later on that subject).

I made my PHOTON purchase late October,2011,so,it was still under factory warranty. Not sure if BEST BUY'S GEEK SQUAD coverage is necessary for a low/no-cost swap-out for normal wear & tear warranty issues.

Guess that rules that possibility out for me. It's okay though. I'm hoping that my MoPho will last being a dedicated music player/international/back-up phone. It'll still be cool taking it on road trips and using it with the lapdock to watch movies.

ABSOLUTELY! The MO'PHO'S still one awesome piece of hardware, should provide years of service.

Hopefully for all who have the MO'PHO, they are able to enjoy it for what it is, whether that be stock, or, for those who opted to stay on 2.3.4,unlock that thang, root it & ROM it.

Wish I had, instead of worrying about losing 4G WIMAX, which was spotty on most occasions, w/the exception of early A.M. hrs, when no one was on the network.

I STRONGLY urge those in the latter group to consider alternatives for stock ICS, such as LOKIFISH_MARZ's work, & support past, present, & future PHOTON development ($). :D

For what you'll gain in a much improved user experience, it's worth giving up 4G WIMAX.

FWIW, http://www.cowboom.com
has used/refurbished (?) PHOTONS for $99.

Might be a viable option if you don't wanna bother w/a repair & are not covered by insurance or warranty protection.

Looks like they also have the XOOM Tablet for $209.Might wanna grab one of these as well provided it is in fact a WI-FI only model, which does have an official JB upgrade available, if it's not already pre-loaded.

I got my first photon one year ago. The third one died today and they wanted to give me another as a replacement. This would have been phone number FOUR, in 12 months. It cost me a few bucks but I wiggled my way out of that, and got the new Samsung Galaxy S 3.

I've read through this forum many times looking for help with my issues. You guys have been helpful, but IMHO there is little help for this major league POS phone. It gave me little more than headaches for the entire time. Shutting off, screen not working, locking up...I had the battery in and out of it so many times. I'm not a whiner or bitcher, but I do expect a phone to be much more reliable. The latest thing was something neither the girl at Sprint could help with, and I read it nowhere else. I set the phone on the couch yesterday and when it picked it up, it was scrolling up like rapidly...it did it for the next 14 hours... I almost got a factory reset in, trying to punch the right buttons as the screen zipped by...lol We finally did get it reset but that didn't change anything.

I take care of my stuff and expect it to take care of me.. Motorola Photon let me down..

Hopefully...this new one will be as good as I hear..:)

Sorry to hear you had such a terrible run of luck with the Photon. Personally I've had no problems, but having dealt with problematic phones in the past I fully understand your frustration in that regard. Enjoy your new S3!

Thanks brother... I hated it too...I wanted it to be a good one..

so far, this new phone is excellent.. I'm really liking it and its been a while since I felt that way.

Yeah I'm almost at the end of my photon ride. I'm actually on my second since my launch photon died early this year but it will ne missed. Im actually seriously considering the galaxy note 2 when it's available on 10/25. We'll see what happens. Btw, I bought my wife the s3 and although it does have a weaker 3g radio it does get faster data speeds than the photon. Just my uneducated observation.

Well, I'm not completely at the end of my Photon ride, since I'll be keeping the phone as a dedicated media player/back-up phone/international phone...but, I'll be upgrading to a Galaxy Note 2, as soon as it's available at Best Buy (hoping that'll be on the 25th, like the actual release, but we'll see).

Nontheless, I'll still be popping my head into these forums to see what's going on, but more than likely won't be as active in here as I used to be.

I seriously can't believe that I'm giving Samsung a shot, but the support is overwhelming compared to how it used to be and it does seem that Samsung has stepped up their game for OEM support.

Yeah I never thought I'd be getting a samsung phone either but after getting my wife the s3 and playing with it they have certainly raised their game considerably. That's why I feel confident getting the note2. Plus looks like lte is about to go live soon in Miami so I need to switch anyway.

We keep following each other with phones. Great minds think alike.

Just like our teams will be following each other to the Finals this year!...LOL

Someone sounds bitter ;)

I just read about it...

nothing to get to excited about....

not like a jump from GB to ICS.....

ohhh oops you dont get that either :D

ok that was mean

The wounds, they bleed! :D

I will admit that the lack of 4.x is starting to affect my Android experience. Lots of improvements to Google apps that won't appear on my phone because the new versions aren't compatible with GB. I actually caught myself thinking about WP8 the other day!

I'm still very shaky about WP8. They basically did the exact same thing as Motorola and left phones under a year old behind with no updates (told people they would get updated then went back). I've actually looked at Blackberry 10, but I won't roll that dice again.
