Eris ota update

Is there any info on the next ota update for the Droid Eris? I was originally advised that it would be by the end of the first quarter of 2010. Any info on this is appreciated.
Thanks!

Welcome, mzval.

If you're the adventurous type, you may want to give the "leaked" version of the 2.1 update a go. Keep in mind that it is not the completed or finalized "official" version, though. Have a look at the "bugs and fixes" sticky thread near the top of the Eris forums, first, and take you time reading some of the other 2.1 related threads, I'd advise.

If you're like me, you'll hang on and await the official OTA.. that may take some patience, but I have the feeling it is forthcoming because the 2.1 OTA for the Droid is streaming to users right now and has been for several days.

First off, welcome to the forums! ...it's safer here!

Second, I know that Verizon employees are hardly the most knowledgeable or reliable when it comes to questions about 2.1, but I did have an interesting conversation with one the other day.

I went to my local VZW to get some more screen protectors for my eris, and the place was packed with people, but when the manager saw that I was just standing there holding the 3-pack, he came up and told me to go straight to a register instead of waiting for all of the other people doing whatever the hell they were doing -pretty cool of him, imo. While I had his attention, I politely asked him about the 2.1 update release, stating that Q1 2010 was only days from ending. He was very candid in his answer, and explained that pretty much all VZW employees, including managers, are kept pretty much in the dark. However he did say that he was told that they have changed the date from Q1 to "pending". He could not elaborate on that, whether pending meant any day now, or next quarter.

So, take it for what it is. I personally like to think that "pending" = testing is done, preparing for OTA push. But, it could just as easily = not gonna be Q1, don't know if it's gonna be Q2, so lets just say "pending".

I was at a VZW kiosk yesterday, asked them about the Eris to 2.1 update. Salesman said he was waiting for his Droid to get the update, then the salesgirl pops out here Eris and shows me here 2.1, installed by someone at Verizon, so they're giving it to employees. Guy said he heard (we know how that goes) the leaks may not receive the OTA, it will only upgrade from the official 1.5 currently on the phones. He did say it won't be on the Eris until Droid updates are finished.

His comment about leaks not receiving OTA may be accurate. The good news is that the file will be available online and whether we have to do a manual install or if the OTA comes, we will get the official VZ release that everyone else gets.

the problem is most people that have not installed the leak might not know what they are doing,, including me, which means It might not turn up on a file sharing, but hopefully for you guys, there is someone who Is holding out fir the fun of it, and will upload it.

If anything like our past updates, the file will be hosted by HTC on pdcphones.com. That will make things very simple.

Ok well from reading the post we can expect it sometime between now and the end of may. Awesome! Joking aside i do appreciate your effort and reporting, it would be nice if verizon would just come out with a news release and say ok here it is, this is whats going to happen between these dates and viola we can go back to enjoying our daily lives again instead of waiting around like the people on the nexus one forum waiting for the n1 on the verizon network. One upside is at least we are using the phones in the meantime and not just sitting there hoping and praying some tidbit of info comes out with a release date.
