yes the triumph is one of the phones on the list that will not be getting the 4.1 update. But our MTDEVS are hard at work and are making tremendous progress on the future of our phone all we have to do is be patient let them work and we help out when we can.

I plan to only buy a phone that guarantees an update or 2 next. I have no problems switching carriers, but I won't trust motorola again. It would be different if our phone couldn't handle the upgrade. Since it can, all I can do is be thankful for MTDEV for helping me protect my investment. Motorola gets no love from me.

The deal is just more evidence that the Triumph is an afterthought for Moto. You are right, you can't even trade up if you wanted to, because they don't make any other devices for VM. So it's a fairly useless offer (also because you have to send them your phone, which you could probably sell for close to $100 anyway).

However, by now Triumph owners should be numb to it. They wouldn't upgrade it to Gingerbread. They wouldn't upgrade it to ICS. It's not a shocker that they won't upgrade it to Jelly Bean.

I certainly don't mean to suggest you should be unhappy with the phone. But what "more" do you think it can do than any current phone that ships with Jelly Bean?

Also, you should try activating the $25 plan if you are currently paying $35.

Not OS wise.. functionally and price wise.

A new OS will not give someone HDMI output and unlimited data at a price that comes close to my phone. I can also easily tether my phone and share the data without having to pay extra or load a completely different OS on my phone and loose the HDMI in the process. Those two things are "more" to me

I have no idea what apps are important to you, to tell you what you are missing out on... Nor do I recall anyone suggesting Jelly Bean could create an HDMI connection. I guess I don't understand what you are saying.

You said your phone can do the same and MORE. I asked what the MORE was. The Triumph is certainly not the only phone out there with an HDMI connector, so what else can it do?

Jelly Bean (and ICS) is substantially more stable than Froyo, is much smoother and better looking, and has probably hundreds of small UI improvements that add up to a much easier to use and better experience. And it doesn't come with any obligation to pay more money per month for service.

I certainly don't see anything wrong with the Triumph. But the idea that it can do more than newer phones running newer versions of Android is fairly absurd.

As far as i know, Pretty much any rooted device can tether for free, and I know mine does HDMI output.

I was talking about on a stock rom. Most people do not have their phones rooted and that was the audience I was addressing . I was talking about my personal experiences with people that I talk to. They think my phone is a cheap piece of junk because it's prepaid but yet there is nothing that their phone can do that mine can't and in fact I show them how I can easily tether my phone and have HDMI output. I wasn't trying to get into technical discussion about specs and OSs. So of course it's easy to point to several phones that really are better.. but that's not what I was talking about

If I may squeeze my input in here for a moment.

With the right mhl cable and software, nearly any phone can run HDMI even without a dedicated HDMI output. Even my evo 3d doesnt have a dedicated port, just takes a nice mhl connector/cable and you've got yourself HDMI .

Just to be clear, practically all Motorola phones, and many Sony phones have dedicated HDMI outputs. Additionally, most all new phones support HDMI via MHL, though this is more hassle than a dedicated port. MHL-equipped TV's should make this much easier, but they aren't the norm like HDMI is.

Every Virgin Mobile Android and iPhone is eligible for the $35/month plan, with the same data speeds and amount you get now. Additionally, companies like T-Mobile offer more data before throttling, at faster speeds (for most people) for a similar cost.

And to tether that data, stock Android since, I think Gingerbread, can tether via wifi, bluetooth, or USB. You don't need to root or install a custom ROM. This is only needed when carriers block it via the device. I seem to recall tethering via the stock ROM on the Triumph was difficult, though, due to the odd sized MTU setting?

So if you ever reach a point where it is time to move on from the Triumph, I think you will find you can get those same features from several places, with a phone that is much more up-to-date and capable. That said, while the Triumph still works for you, enjoy it. I thought it was a nice phone, I ultimately couldn't deal with the network it was on.

Which is blocked on the phones that I've seen. My daughter had to pay extra to unblock it on hers. She wanted to watch Netlix on her laptop and use the data from the phone. That was my original point because it seems to be blocked or missing from the few that I've played with. These phones are on plans that are three times as much (or more) a month then what I pay. That's when I would say "wow.. my phone can just hook to the TV and watch Netflix directly for only $35". So that's where the "more" statement comes from.
Just to be clear... I'm only talking about a hand full of people that I've compared phones with. I'm not talking about every carrier and phone in the world

Yes, plenty of people pay tons of money to be told how they can use their phone by their carrier. But there are lots of options available that aren't a rip-off. The prepaid market seems to get better all the time. It's amazing what people will agree to over two years just because they don't have to pay anything up front.

Who would have figured 10 years ago (hell, even 5 years ago) that half a gig of RAM would be "not enough"? My phone now totally blows away my old single-core 1.6 Ghz laptop & has the same 2GB of RAM. Weird, wild stuff...

Would be awesome for MT owners who are tired of it but don't want to leave VM if HTC would match the $100 upgrade credit as this group is trying to push for- a hundred bucks off the One V or EVO 3D would be nice!

I don't see HTC giving discounts for another companies lack of upgrades.

Maybe with enough complaining you could get moto to allow the discount to be applied to other manufacturers because you are so disappointed in them, but I don't see that happening either.

it actually worked just fine when I had it on there, I saw no drop in response but actually an increase.

But the production for the Jelly Bean rom (CM10) has been halted until the get the ICS (CM9) one working as a whole, because then getting JB they think will be easier if they can reference code from their ICS build.

The only thing I am unhappy with motorola for is the fact that they refusing to release needed code to devs to further develop the roms more easily.

The fact that Motorola isn't upgrading the Triumph does not surprise me. There was a reason behind that sign up for the 100 if your device doesn't get the update.. That was to see if there were enough users for them to justify them to take the time and code the update. Every phone needs its own update, sure its the same os, but each update has to be tailored to fit each individual device based on its hardware, like its chipset, cpu and other misc items. All that takes time, and time is money. When you're dealing with a corporation you must realize they are going to do what is best in their interest, they like to stay in the black as much as they can.

So don't hate Motorola just because this phone is not getting an update.

Fact is most people don't even have JB yet..
