Vodafone has the Desire in store and they are unlocked!

I was previously told that Vodafone are not locking their HTC phones. Went into my local Vodafone shop and they now have the Desire in stock. With the demo Desire we put in an O2 sim card and it worked fine. A bonus that the phone is unlocked by default!

I forgot to ask if they were selling the phone sim free. I know they were with the magic. Will have to ask next time. Just think it is a big bonus that their HTC phones are unlocked.

You could buy it online as there are quite a few shops selling it online... sim free / unlocked.

I asked this time. A service guy scanned the barcode on the box and the phone came up as

Looks like Desire sales are pretty good. Checked 3 Vodafone stores near where I live and they have all sold out. They claim 1-2 weeks before they get new stock.

I was lucky, I popped in over a week ago on the off chance they might have one to demo and they had just been delivered! they said they wasn't supposed to sell them that day but they let me have one anyway

BTW at ThreeUK they also sell unlocked and unbranded HTC Desire
