I recently bought a Kyocera Hydro for my mom for her trip to Japan for around $90 at Target after using some store coupons. I assigned her a Google Voice number and downloaded Groove IP Lite. My mom was able to make free calls from half-way around the world without hefty long-distance charges and I was able to reach her (whenever she was in a Wi-FI hotspot) by simply dialing her local number.
