LG Connect keeps restarting about every hour or two! Help!

Hi guys, my phone was running great about 2 weeks ago and every day this seems to get worse and worse but my LG Connect (Metro) keeps restarting by itself about every hour now and it's getting to the point where I can't even use it. I see that the play store was updated without me knowing about it and also some other stuff was updated! I have it rooted and I have Titanium Backup and I have frozen some user apps that I think might use the 4g for something but I can't get it to stop restarting! I think it might be the new play store update or Dolphin or my GO keyboard. I really have no idea but it's pissing me off.... anyone else having this issue and can someone help me? I have it rooted and I have (bought) Titanium Backup but I'm at a lose now and need to fix this efin' thing!

What should I do? I removed the play store update but after the phone restarted on it's on the play store updated it's self again.

This really sucks and any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks all!

I've been frezzing stuff that i have added during the past 2 weeks. Yea im on the stock rom.

When this restart every 1 or 2 hours started everything was unfrozen. That is why i started freezing apps. Doing a factory reset gets rid of my root, right? How do i do it? I hate to loose root cause it's a bitch to root my phone (don't ask, hehe).

Thanks all

No. You will not lose root. If you have cwm installed you can boot into it and do a data wipe/factory reset. If you don't have cwm then do it the normal way from settings and privacy.

You'd only lose root if you restored your phone with lg mobile tool. (from your computer) but losing root should be the least of your worries. Rooting is easy. Having your phone constantly restarting is a hoe.

Well that didn't help, right after I posted here I got a call, answered it, talked about 2 sconds and then my phone restarted! Ahhhhh! How do I get to the recovery menu? I'm gona loose all my apps and contacts unless I back them up with T.B. Right? Can it be my battery? I dropped my phone about 2 months ago, busted the screen and scratched up the battery real bad one corner of it is real messed up but this restart crap didn't start until about 2 weeks ago.....

I should unfreeze everything before doing a backup right?

Oh yea, it restarts doing different things it will restart while surfing the web or typing a text or playing a game or whatever..... It's like a time bomb i never know when it might happen. I only have a few seconds sometimes to do something before it goes BOOM and restarts (takes like 6 minutes for it to come back on). So if I do a factory reset (don't know how yet though) what then? Should the first thing I do is install busy box and then what? I'm still kind of a newbie. Been using Android phones about 6 months now and started rooting about 3 months ago. I won't even attempt to install a Custom rom or nothing. That is why i just have it rooted and using the stock rom. I did delete some bloatware, will that mess up the recovery? My first phone was the Samsung Admire and that thing sucked after a month i sold it and went and got this LG Connect and it's been great up until 2 or 3 weeks ago.... God.... This sucks!

OK, I have had it now! Should I do a Hard Reset or a Master Reset? Which one will make it loose all my apps, etc. Which one will allow me to keep my phone rooted?

Here are the instructions I found:

Hard Reset:

  1. Turn the power off.
  2. Press and hold the following keys at the same time: Power/Lock key + the Volume down key.
  3. Release the Power/Lock key and the Volume down key when you see the Factory Hard Reset screen.
  4. Press the Power/Lock key to confirm (or press any other key to cancel).
  5. When you press the Power/Lock key to confirm, the message “Are you sure you want to continue with erase?” is displayed.
  6. Press the Power/Lock key and your phone will be restored to the factory settings. To cancel, press the Volume Keys.

Master Reset:

  1. Go back to the Home screen.
  2. Next tap on the application list.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Then choose Privacy.
  5. Next tap on Factory data reset.
  6. Then select Reset phone. If you want to wipe out all data on the SD card then make sure the check box "Erase USB storage" is ticked.
  7. Next follow the onscreen instruction to finish off the process.

Both does the exact same thing. The first method is in case you're unable to boot or something. Since you can then the second method would be faster if your phone is already on.

You will not lose root.

You wouldnt happen to have 2 cpu settings apps would you? like setcpu and nofrills or rom toolbox? any combo of 2 apps like that used to make mine restart. What happened is that they would both try to set the cpu to a certain state.I got those issues with rom toobox and setcpu.the profiles on setcpu would set the cpu speed and then rom toolbox would set it to the default.it was a back and forth thing it seemed.I uninstalled rom toolbox and have been fine ever since!

Nope, I'm just using LG Optimizer.

I cleared all my caches with T.B. last night and it seemed to help but it still restarted by itself like 2 or 3 times today. I backed up all my apps and contacts and looks like I will have to do a factory reset.... man this blows! What causes these kinds of things? My samsung was a nightmare and now my LG is a nightmare. Grrrr!

Happy Halloween BTW!

Well I did the Hard Reset and after everything was updated by Google (i.e. Play Store, Books App, etc....) the Son of a Bi^@hing phone rebooted by itself again. That was 2 days ago I did the Hard Reset and since then it's rebooted about 10 times since then. I think it has something to do with the update to the Google Play Store or something. I have read on the comments of logging apps on the store that a lot of people are experiencing this random reboot thing starting about the middle of last month (October 2012). I wish there was an app that would log my reboots so I can see what is causing it. Does anyone know of a good one? If so how would I use it?

Can someone tell Google that their Sh#ty update is causing problems with some phone models? That is all I can guess it is....

Could my Busy Box be corrupt or my Root? I went to uninstall Busy Box cause I was going to install a fresh version but it told me not to uninstall it... ;-) so I am left with a 4 month old phone that reboots itself about 4 or 5 times a day now! Grrrrr!

Well this thing is still rebooting about 3-6 times a day. Any ideas?

You are using a stock rom right?I had this issue when I had black plague(kicks ass playfulgod =D),it started up out of nowhere, and tried as I could nothing would work either. So I just switched to rom #2 and that issue went away.

I think it must have been something I tweaked or some app that I installed and then removed that didnt reset certain settings that it used.I also had connect optimizer on broken out and black plague. After i removed it i did notice i had some issues with my phone...............but i removed it completely and didnt install on #2 so it can be that............

Yea, using the LG Stock Rom.... Looks like I need to put a custom Rom on but I don't know how nor do I have a PC to work with.....

Sucks!

You shouldn't need a PC to flash a new ROM. You'll need CWM recovery, but that's about it. If you're rooted, you can get that from ROM manager w/o a PC. After that, just follow the directions that are in the ROM's thread.

Yea 2 nights ago I put on version 2. I have had one self reboot since then. I wish they would have given it a real name.... Is there other ROMs for our phones that we can use or is version 2 it? I have asked other questions here if you wana give it a shot with some answers for me. It's on the last page. There are a few other ROMs available. I'm using Black Plague from PlayfulGod, but that might not be the best ROM if you're having problems with reboots. It tends to cause my phone to reboot a lot for a few days after flashing a backup. Usually it slows down & then stops with most of the reboots after a few days, but I'll still have the occasional reboot.

There's Broken Out too from mtmichaelson, as well as another ROM from Idrifta with a stock theme. I think that's it for now, but others may be coming in the near future.

So I have Version 2 on now, what is the basic procedure to try different ROMS? Is there a way to boot the phone into Clockwork with the phone off? I mean what if I soft brick my phone how would I fix that? Any key combo to boot into Clockwork?

I'm guessing that all the ROMS can have the LG Stock Lock Screen placed back on right? Does any of these ROMS have something built in that makes the in call volume louder?

hold the volume down key and the power button, you'll get a screen that says if you want to factory reset.Just click the power button the times it tells you if your sure.It wont factory reset,it'll take you to CWM
