Official Vehicle Dock

I don't disagree with you either, but if we're talking about new unit design, I'd love to have something that avoids the hodgepodge of several different components ... minimize complexity :)

Totally understand. I'm just throwing ideas out there.

Quite honestly, I don't mind the wire connectivity. And like you, I don't plan on getting a new car anytime soon (w/ bluetooth connectivity), so even a simple dock and go setup that has a microUSB connected through the dock and 3.5mm adaptor would be more than fine for me. I don't mind the wires, as long as I can route them to stay out of the way.

Wireless, eventually, would be ideal...but I really don't know how "easy" that would be.

My only plan now for a powered mount is to get a wireless STONE charger and "somehow" attach it to the end of a window mount. The plam pre chargers are flat on the bottom and there are several window mounts that the phone clamp portion comes off the sucsion cup and arm leaving a flat plate. I'll mount the STONE wireless charger to that.

Thanks for the tip! Yes, a 3.5 mm BT dongle is a good option except that it's another item that needs charging, although that can be solved.

Yes, which is why I'd say having both wired and wireless versions would be great.

When do you anticipate having a dock ready? I'd love to be able to get one soon, considering the phone's release Thursday.

Here is two options for a powered mount. I might get this.
Samsung Galaxy Note II (USA And Europe) - Charging Holder with Tilt Swivel and USB Cigarette Lighter Adapter*-*ProClip Car Mounts for Mobile Phones, Tablet, and Handheld Devices

Samsung Galaxy Note II (USA And Europe) - Charging Holder with Tilt Swivel and Straight Power Cord for Fixed Installation *-*ProClip Car Mounts for Mobile Phones, Tablet, and Handheld Devices

Question for you all.
I'm thinking of puting the wireless charging coil in the back of my Note 2. Then mounting the touchstone wireless charger on a car mount.
However, after looking at a few pictures of this coil:
notes2b.jpg

It doesn't look like the coil is centered. When the phone is mounted and centered, the coil will not be centered on the mount. I.e. the touchstone and phone both have magnets that pull it to center. The phone will be off, IMO. I'm guessing this is off a S3 that is narrower and thus centered.
Another concern is the coils are typicall from the palm pre. Do you think that this coil for the Note 2, comes from a pre or even the S3, will be suffecient to charge the Note 2 while in use? Really, the Note 2 has a 5.5 screen, and a much larger battery than the S3 and pre.
My current charger sometimes doesn't keep up with my Droid X. I don't want to do that again. I'm thinking of skipping the wireless and going with the proClip mount.
But, proClip is made for portrait and I use my Note 2 (when VZW gets it to me) for GPS and movies. I don't know if the proclip will hold it securely in landscape. I sent an email to them about my concern. I hope to get a response soon.

Pro Clip also offers a window mount which is not listed on their website yet. They sent me a picture.

If it doesn't accommodate the device with a case, in my opinion it is a BUST! That is a must-have for any car dock/mount.

Thanks for posting that up. Didn't realize ProClip already made the holder for the Note 2. I love the ProClip vehicle specific mounts, but the actually holders are just "ok" for me, not great. I may go with this one, if iBolt lags too long.

Well, I bit the bullet and ordered the window mount and powered phone mount. I use my window mount daily with at least 10-15 docks/un-docks daily. I want a powered mount so I don't have to plug in a wire ever time; just slide it in. I'll get one of the tectiles for NFC to turn on and off BT and car mode and it will be sweat! I don't think a generic one with adjustable foam arms or pads would have made me happy. I love the whole thing being one step of about 2 seconds. The charger is rated at 2 amps so it should provide enough juice for GPS and wifi tether while charging the battery.

The iBolt is a "nice" looking mount for sure. However, it really IMHO, not a powered mount. Yes, it has power, but you have to plug in the phone every time. Hence, it is no different than a passive mount and plugging in the charge wire every time. I do like the cradle though and the aux wire which the proclip doesn't have (and I could definitely use).

iBolt hasn't released their Note 2 mount yet. The only one that is of "plug-in" variety is the SGS 3 mount, but the iPhone AND HTC LTEvo is a powered mount as you've mentioned above.

I NEED THIS
Driving tonight using the Note 2 was HORRIBLE.....Horrible I tell you. Things are cool when you're a passenger but trying to do stuff behind the wheel is setting oneself up for an accident.

I positively loved the vehicle dock for my Motorola Photon; still have it. At this point, I prefer iBolt (watched the youtube vid) because aesthetically it's the coolest looking one I've seen. It has that "pop" factor that screams take my money please!

This. I need a dock soon. But, I'd rather them take their time and do it right.

I'm looking at the iBolt now, too. It doesn't look that different from Motorola's Droid 3 dock. So if the official dock never comes to be or is inferior.. there is this.

I just hope it's not a pain in the ass on the Note 2 when it comes to changing orientation by flipping it. Motorola will not let you do that as it keeps it locked in landscape when it's docked.

iBolt has their own app that works with the dock. Locked pretty cool to me. That's the other reason I don't want to go the universal route. What they do looks very intriguing to me especially considering how much I like tech advancements.
