*DROID DNA reaction, discussion, and first impression thread*

Saw this phone and got happy at first. The specs look really good, but the batt life and limited memory really kill it for me. I've had a Thunderbolt for the past two years and the crappy battery life has really been an issue. I'm not trying to set myself up for that problem again. And the lack of memory is just puzzling. I can't understand why they'd only offer 16 GB and no other alternatives. I don't even consider myself a memory hog and even I am using more than 16 GB of total storage on my phone.

Anyone who's been rocking a Thunderbolt for two years deserves mad props.

16 Gig storage is disappointing.

My Rezound came with about 40 Gigs (That's what it says when plugged into the PC) and I am using about 10 Gigs of it so that would max out the DNA storage.

I don't carry movies around as HULU + Netflix + Unlimited data works for me.
But I do record a lot of videos and if I'm away form home long I guess I'd be using Dropbox like crazy to clear my HD videos I record to make room.

I was planning on getting the Note II because I thought the DNA was coming out next year.

But I dunno. I love my HTC's.

I sure hope this thing can play youtube and be able to go send messages at the same time like the Note 2 can.
That's the one thing that I wish my Rezound could do.
Other than that my Rezound works flawless.

Glad I could help :)

But phone has been activated all day now. So far kicking butt still, tomorrow is the real test. Start off day full battery, use phone all day at work on lte and see where I stand after my shift

Try to kick it's a**. Battery performance could really be my tipping point. Of course, don't get in trouble at work. :D

I did not like the screen in my brothers S3 very much, but was blown away by the Note 2 screen, in terms of brightness, color reproduction, and lack of pixelation/sharpness to my eyes.

I need to look into this. You're saying there is a discernible difference between S3 and the Note 2 displays?

The other major detail...if not THE most important...is reception. I'm still trying to get over the banana in the tail pipe that was the Samsung Galaxy Nexus on Verizon. It kept me from taking advantage of my last subsidy (while keeping my unlimited data) from Verizon with the S3, and has me leery of the Note 2. I've read the S3's reception is improved from the Nexus, but the Note 2's performance on LTE is still a question mark, is it not? I guess the same could be said about DNA, but we have NightAngel as our guinea pig, lol. Work that LTE tomorrow NA.

I just checked my memory cards on my Bionic. I don't have a lot of apps, but do have music, photos, and documents for work, notes, etc. I'm at 11 gigs total. I Would have no room for any additional photos or videos taken with the new phone! What were they thinking?!? A version with 32 gigs has to be in the plans....

It would be nice but it doesn't look like it (so far)

I've got mine pre-ordered and I can't stand waiting..
I am however, waiting on the battery test on this thing.

Any ideas of qi compatible chargers beside the energizer and lg? I thought I saw one before that had the phone held at an angle but cannot find it for the life of me.

Probably thinking of the nexus 4 charger

for those complaining about the storage, use one of the many cloud services to store your bigger files. with 4glte accessing them is quick and simple!

Cloud storage is great if you have unlimited data and always have a solid lte connection, but that's certainly not the case for the majority of people anymore. I used to only use Google music to play my tunes through my car stereo, and there was a few months where i went over my 10GB data limit.

Good point and the only complaint I have with phone so far, I'm unlimited but I had over 5 gigs of books saved to sd on rezound

Well it's not like I had much of a choice. I signed the contract, so I was stuck with it for two years. It has it's problems but not enough of them to warrant me going and buying replacement phone at the full retail price.

It was my first smartphone though, so it was definitely an upgrade even with all the problems.

Yeah, I still have unlimited data, but my issue is with my Nexus, my desk at work gets almost no 4G, and only dismal 3G. Streaming is hit or miss, and transferring files to/from the cloud is pretty much out of the question. But I have found HTC's radios to be better (that is the case comparing my phone to the Rezound anyways), so maybe I will be able to hold on to a 4G signal, and then its no problem.

NightAngel, another question.

How does this phone fit into your pocket? I know some people with the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 say it fits fine while some others have problems.

This device feels way better in my pocket than my Rezound. Especially considering that I had the extended battery on it, which made it an absolute brick.

This thing is slim enough that I don't even feel it there. Feels a lot like my GS3.

This was my concern about SG3. Some said the radio was fine and others experienced issues. And since I tend to travel into the middle of nowhere for my job, I have not had issue with me Dinc.

Now to see how DA's battery stress test goes. I am looking forward to all the data points and sampling to put together my own theory. LOL! Of course I jest about the data points.... :D

This was also my biggest complaint with the GS3. Samsung's radios just don't cut it.

And that was my waffle. I like the SG3 features with TouchWiz (text to phone call, left right swipe from contacts); but being stuck out in a mill with no signal makes my life miserable.

I also assume that should I get giggly I can use launchers on this phone as well? I also want to dive into Tasker and NFC tags as well because...well just because I am a dork!

I'm researching this for my wife's replacement, she has the original TB as well and always complains about the battery, so that is huge, along with boot up time and phone quality. I have the Galaxy Nexus and while I like the phone, call quality is not what I expected. She doesn't need lots of storage so that's a non issue for her. I'm also looking at the Droid Maxx HD from Motorola which is supposed to have great battery life. She's thinking about the iphone 5 but isn't sure she'll like learning a new system and the lack of a back button on the iphone worries her as well. Looking forward to battery use reports. Thanks again, NA
