*DROID DNA reaction, discussion, and first impression thread*

I can get 8 hours on my Droid X and 8 Hours on my wife's Rezound without an issue.

I don't stream video or anything crazy like that, so maybe my usage of the word heavy is subjective.

My usage today on my Droid X has been 7hrs 41min on battery, 55% display (On 1h 19min), 14% idle, 13% standby, 3% Gmail and then 7 or 8 more 2% usages....and I have 50% left.

Do you think the DNA would beat that or be worse than that?

I wouldn't consider that heavy personally ;). Plus LTE is a drain that you don't have with the X. I do think with that amount of screen on time, you will make it a whole day with the DNA pretty easily though.

I'm probably going to get this, but I have a hard time seeing how the 1080p screen is going to give me a better experience than the Rezound. I can't see individual pixels on the Rezound at any distance. The color is great.

I like that the DNA has a bigger screen, larger battery and thinner body. Don't care about weight, the Rezound never seemed too heavy to me. Don't care about storage, I use streaming services extensively.

Any word on whether the DNA gets overheated after heavy use?

if you bought a micro usb adapter and plugged a usb drive into it, would the phone recognize the drive? obviously not the cleanest solution to more capacity, and you couldnt walk around with it plugged in but it could work for certain situations.

I wonder if thats why DA posted that link to the microUSB to regular USB adapter cord?

I only get 50 bucks for my line. And I get nothing for my wifes phone. I thought I would get a Valued Member perk per line... :(

That only a worry if I cant keep my unlimited.
Only way to keep your unlimited data is to purchase the phone at full retail price, once you go subsidized, your unlimited data plan is terminated "and Verizon is salivating at that thought"

This device runs real cool. Both of the sides are completely ventilated with metal grates that run almost the whole length of the phone. I expect this thing will stay nice and cool.

So in theory I buy the phone "somewhere" (doubt it matters where) and then what? I dont have a SIM card in my current Dinc?

As far as I know you just have to grab a micro SIM from Verizon and have it activated on your account. However, if you are upgrading to 4G I'm not sure how that would work without actually getting on a new contract. I jumped from 3G on the Incredible to 4G on the Rezound and got in before the unlimited data plans dried up, but it might be more complicated now.

So there is more to it than just unlimited and a phone. If the phone goes from 3g to 4g that will cause a problem too?

Man...this is annoying.

I'm pretty sure that Verizon set it up so that if you move from a 3G account to a 4G account, you have to resign your contract. That's one of the reasons I upgraded to the Rezound when I did. I had to get 4G locked in before the unlimited data was all through.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you need to get a new contract to be on 4G, and therefore wouldn't be able to just get a SIM activated on your 3G account.

Then I will have to think harder about this. I slipped up by not getting anything 4G related prior to now. I dont use a tremendous amount of data, but I dont want it removed. If I am going to get dinged that hard...I might just use the company POS phone on the road and go somewhere else. This really harshes the happy buzz....

No overheating problems at all, don't even think the screen fgets especially hot like the Rezound's did(does)

They should just give you one

I think this is where they may be flexible. Best to call and check, and talk to MORE than one person. If CSR says you can do it, ask to speak with her supervisor to confirm. Be sure, get in an email if possible

Stayed away from WiFi today, pretty steady usage all day. As you can see there at the end i had screen on constantly the last couple hours, (netflix, book reading and a little pandora/surfing)

13 hours before it shut off on me and I plugged in....

Updating first post :)

So, Night Angel and Trooper ..

Any update on battery life after another day with the device? I think that is of peak interest around here now ;). Well, to me anyway !

Thanks !

I unplugged my phone yesterday morning at 9:30 AM, so about 20h30m ago and I'm at 44%.

Overnight it lost 5% battery from 10:30 PM to 5:45 AM. Turned off WiFi and Mobile Data.

Sorry I can't give you screen on time for this duration, I restarted the phone at one point to confirm the device is S-OFF and it wiped out my stats in BetterBatteryStats. Screen On has been 1h since I did the restart, but I'm not sure really how much I used before that.

This device is going to get me through my days easily. It's going to be just a tad less than the Galaxy S3 was I'm thinking.

You won't need a new contract to go from 3G to 4G, so you won't lose unlimited if you do that. They DO have to change the data code, but since data is considered an add-on feature, and not associated with the contract plan, you can change it without affecting your contract.
