I support Walmart employees!

Honestly, I don't blame Wal-mart. If no one showed up at the stores, they wouldn't be open. There is consumer demand to skip Thanksgiving and do Christmas shopping sadly. We have all our priorities jacked up and this is just another symptom.

I wouldn't have posted my support 10 years ago, because those jobs had been filled by many with a high school education, and people who wanted a second job for extra spending cash, now you have people (many who are the bread winner) with college degrees working there.

I make the presents I give out to my siblings. Usually a gift basket with homemade sausage, salsa and home roasted and ground coffee. This year I might add homemade caramels. So I don't participate in the Black Friday nonsense. The kids (25 and 21) are getting cash this year to do whatever they want.

As you stated, the holiday season has lost it's true meaning.

I refuse to shop at Walmart any day due to their evil business practices, and you couldn't get me to go out shopping on Black Friday if you put a gun to my head, but I'm not sure I follow your logic. Are you saying that people with a high school education don't deserve to spend the holiday with their families, but now that college graduates might work there its not cool to make them work? That seems incredibly elitist.

LOL, I can see where you could make that conclusion. I was just commenting that the jobs are not available for many college graduates and they have to take one or sometimes two jobs outside of the field they are educated in. I also don't shop at Walmart for the same reason.

A job at Walmart was not considered to be a primary source of income as it is today. I apologize if I did not explain it very well. :)

They should set it up like Sears did, only schedule those who want to work the holiday.

This would be the best way to do it.

I'm guilty of this. Mainly because this time of year, the extra money is nice and I would usually get time and a half or double time depending on the holiday.

Back in the day when my son was really young, I said "Bah Humbug". He asks me "Who's Bob Humbug"? ;)

Believe it or not there are those who would rather work than go to a family gathering and see who gets to go to the hospital for sheer dumbassness this time.
Same here, in my younger years, I didn't mind working holidays, less people around (bosses), make extra money (time & half) and not much else to do. But as I get older, I'm not so willing to work them now. I do have to work this Thanksgiving since it is my normal work day. I work 3 day/12 hour shifts.

Let them eat cake, I say. These people should be happy they have a job in the first place. Us graduates and better off folks need a place to get those last minute Wally Mart pies and batteries for the Thanksgiving Day gift exchanges, dag nabbit.

Perhaps if the poor and uneducated Wally Mart employees had stayed in school and learnt a thang or three, they would be doctors or lawyers or Internet billionaires and they would not have to work at Wally Mart.

Too many whiners I suspect!

My guess is WallyMart employees know when they are hired that they might have to work on a holiday. What about the 7-11 people, Denny's and other places thaty will be open Christmas Day? there must be a lot of workers working on that day. You gonna whine about them, too? I mean just to remain consistant.

Smiley!

I'm confused...... which evil practices are we talking about?

selling the products that everybody wants at a price they can afford?

wheres a stake and a fire when you need one

I say rid the planet of all Wall Mart stores. Yup . . . they are pure evil and they must go. Then let us see what happens. Attack Sears and Denny's I suppose. GD that Wall Mart for their low prices and jobs.

Everyone here knows that jobs and low prices are hurting this country.

Those terrible jobs like my friend has at $23.00 or so per hour. If WM can't do better than that, she should quit and go to work for a mom and pop shop where she will surely make the same income.

Actually, I think most mom and pop stores or whatever you call one of Wall Mart's competitors are paying the same wages a WM employee gets.

WM is a target shot at by people that know fiddly about Wall Mart.

Now, if we can fire all of those old people that greet us when we walk through the door, I'll be pleased.
