Thats the only way to change stock firmware.
As for the other problem, just make sure its not just your battery unable to hold charge for long.

Oh I see sorry.

No not battery as I got a new one.

regarding the site that you gave I have had another look and I'm confused to which one to use to do the stock firmware, because on some of the topics in here say do not use that or this as it will brick your phone. Could you advise to which one to use for windows xp and my phone.

Thank you for your time in helping me.

What are you referring to? the firmware or the flash programme?
Firmwares are sorted according to device name and region, the program is sorted according to device. Select your device and region and download the latest available firmware and Odin software along with required files.

Where are you looking in??
Goto sammobile.com, create an account, go to the firmwares page and enter yout type, OS, model and country and download the latest firmware for you region.
Then get the flash program and flash guide from the additional files.
Read the guide carefully and make sure you have everything you need. Google for more Odin tutorials if you have trouble understanding from the guide.
Use the software and flash the firmware. Don't remove Kies from your system, it will provide drivers for your phone, if you want to remove Kies then get drivers also from additional files and install them.

I presume when you say "Where are you looking in" you mean brick your phone, if so on one or two places on this forum. I see that marcha as said about it.

Anyway I have now been to the site and made a account and found the part where you put in the details like you say all ok but just the part where it says Country under uk it list uk vir uk orange-ora uk vodfone-vod i presume that is if you are on one of those networks so if I am on ora i would pick that but if my phone is unlocked and on any network what would i pick then.
Sorry to be so thick.

Look at your current baseband in the settings>about phone
Your new firmware should have a name similar to it.
For eg. i am from India and here the baseband names are like S5830DDKQ6 or DDKQ6 etc, i mean the DDK part is same. There is a list on the site telling what names belong to which regions, have a look.
If you have locked carrier then you will need the particular firmware for that carrier, otherwise just enter your country and find the latest one.

Hi Ayush29k

I bet you wish you never replyed to this post:p

I have sorted that out now thank you and got the firmware all ok

BUT the other files like driver, flash intructions etc etc comes up with a error when I click the download it says

"The key you provided for file download was invalid. This is usually caused because the file is no longer stored on MediaFire. This occurs when the file is removed by the originating user or MediaFire."

so how do i get those files and where from.

Once again I must thank you for stopping with me and helping me out thank you for your time
