Momentarily hijacking this to ask what role these devices fill for people. I really don't understand them; too big to easily manipulate in one hand, too small to serve content as neatly as a larger "true"tablet.

For one thing, some people can handle them pretty easily with one hand, but yeah I'm not one of those. Its just for people who don't mind having to use two hands to manipulate a phone. Also Note 2 has a neat, way of making the keyboard adjust for one hand size (there's a space to the left or right of the keyboard area, depending on what side you pull it to) and you can do this on the fly. I want one because It saves the hassle of having to carry a tablet. There are times when you have to go somewhere but can only take one device, and yet you feel a need for a bigger screen to do something, like read something while waiting for your date. Something the size of an SIII should be enough (the onscreen keys makes the OneX really just have a screen smaller than it really is), but the S-Pen is useful.

I would be happy if a 7" screen like the nexus 7 had phone functionality. I can't imagine it would be practical to carry about though but handy as a back up device, meanwhile in the real world I use a note 2.

All Samsung Galaxy Tabs (except the original 10.1) has phone functionality. My Tab Plus can make calls, as well as the Tab 2 7.0... Just make sure you get the 3G version.
