Perhaps a strange question but opinions welcomed

Currently I own a 10 " Le Pan and a 7" Nexus and I was planning on purchasing the Nexus 10 32gb until I visited Best Buy yesterday. While there I saw the new Lenovo very light computer with 128 gb SSD and Windows 8 for $1000. After speaking a little longer to the sales rep, he also showed me the newer Sony with the 3rd generation I-7 chip , 1TB, and a 2gb dedicated video card with a 1600x900 touchscreen and Windows 8 for the same $1000.

So what I am asking opinions on is would you put the $500 I was planning on spending on the Nexus 10 with another $500 and get one of the above devices, or would you get the Nexus 10 and save the extra $s?

My thinking was that since my main use of the 2 tablets I have is web browsing, followed by some game apps, that I could transfer some of my desktop programs to either of these machines and still be able to browse the web faster than with the Nexus 10.

Strange question I am sure, but I honestly would appreciate opinions/advice.

Well, do you want android or windows 8? Do you want easily portable or does it matter. Do you have $1000 to easily spare? If you play PC games, the Sony windows 8 would be a good choice IMO.

If you want to sit back in comfort and browse the internet or watch a movie, the Nexus 10 would be a good choice. As far as surfing the net, my Nexus 10 is about as fast as my laptop. It also has a beautiful screen.

You might also consider buying nothing now and waiting for the newer windows 8 hybrid laptops that you can also use as a tablet.

It really just depends on your budget, your tastes and when do you want it.

Since this is about android and windows 8, tablets and laptops, I'll move this to the lounge so you can get more opinions.

Thank you for your help. I was not aware that MS would have a MS/Android hybrid and I was wondering when you think it will be released? I do know both of the units I saw in BestBuy work with Windows 8 apps. More precisely, I do not know this but I was told by the BB salesman.

I don't think he meant MS/Android hybrid, haven't heard anything about anything like that. Pretty sure he means one of those convertibles that can be used as a Win8 laptop or flipped in some manor to be used as a Win8 touchscreen tablet, like those Ultrabooks.

And to help with the original question, I am personally leaning towards tablet for websurfing on the couch and desktop PC for playing games. I moved a couple months ago, and I have yet to even power up my old laptop, my Nook Tablet has been fine for web surfing. I am going to build a new desktop for my computer room though, as I do want to be able to play games and run Windows programs if I want to.

No, I didn't mean a windows/android hybrid. I mean a Windows 8 laptop that you can detach the monitor and use as a tablet. Kind of like the Windows Surface RT tablet is now but with better components and larger screen. I think they are called slates. I remember seeing one that will have a 15" monitor and 3rd generation Intel CPU.

the nexus tablet is still android and as of right now it does not have the computing power of a pc. but with windows 8 being touch compatible, you will see many pc/tablet hybrids out. and those will definitely have more computing power then an android tablet.

check dells xps 12 convertible, the lenovo yoga, hp's envy x2 among others.

imo i would take the pc. you already have 1 awesome tabet (n7) and the other one i never heard of... you need something to work on to do root stuff for the n7 and the other one. BUT i would after purchase format the hdd and pop ubuntu on it. even the dumbest of users (by no means am i implying your dumb) can run ubuntu. one thing you DONT WANT is windows 8. if you can get it with win7 then that would be better... duel boot win7 and ubuntu...

Apart from being able to detach the monitor, both the yoga and the Sony I looked at have touch screens that of course will work with Windows 8 tablet apps. It is a bit heavier than what I would want in a tablet, but the faster CPU and GPU and keyboard would allow me to surf the web more efficiently and of course run my non standard windows software.

There are hybrids in the works from Asus and I believe they had one on the market already IIRC.

I know some of their prototypes shown at CES this year had Android/Windows dual boot capability.
