Should I get a Nexus 10?

Hello guys,

I own an iPad 3 at this moment and I'm really thinking on selling it... to get a Nexus 10. I went to one of my clients last week and this is what happened... He gave me a usb drive with the info for the job and I couldn't take it with me. The iPad doesn't have a USB port. My client had a Galaxy tablet and showed me how easy it was with it. I looked my iPad and said... This isn't working for me.. What a shame.

Now the thing is... Im going to sell my ipad for sure but... Should I stay with the ipad 3 and see if there is some kind of accesory that makes it read usb drives... Or sell it and get a Nexus 10... Would that be a wise move?

Im kind of new to the Android world and Im really loving it... So glad a sold my iphone 4s and got a Galaxy S3...

I have both a ipad 4 and nexus 10 and find the nexus 10 hardware fantastic......but the software is buggy, and crashes. People tell me to download alternative apps but the stock ones should work. I got frustrated and am sending it back.

I think after a few days you would miss the ipad, i really do.

I am not a fanboy of either camp but i find the ipad just works.

However, for your needs sound like nexus suits better.

Hi Sdahe. :ciao: For the Nexus 10 USB you would have to get an OTG cable. Something like this. You would also need an app like Nexus Media Importer.

Hi Dave :hello: Have you tried a factory reset? That will usually cure software problems.

I have today completed a full factory reset, left it to charge then logged back in, downloaded programs again and..........it flies! 1 hour in and no problems, I will give it 24 hours use and see what happens.

I love my iPad 4 but I want to love this nexus 10 as I really want to try something else other than apple.

I'm not sure. I did a quick search and there may be a way if its jailbroken. I'm sorry, I'm just not that familiar with anything that starts with an i.

You might want to try this before turning in your iPad:
Get the photo connection kit here. It's about $30, maybe less at other retail stores. It should allow you to at least view files from your clients on USB drives, though you might not be able to import them. I'm not sure. If your iPad is jail broken, then I think that iFile from Cydia will allow you to import files.

My wife has an iPad. I had an ideapad up until it died 2 days ago, so I just ordered a Nexus 10. I personally prefer Androids, but think that both devices are just fine. Android gives you more freedom with your device, which is nice when faced with a situation like this. iPads are more polished, though.

I have a Nexus 10 which I like. I don't have any Apple devices but my fiancee has an iPhone as do some people at work.

So, I get told that the Apple ecosystem has a better selection of apps and that this is particularly true for tablet apps as the iPad has been around longer than the Android tablets. If you rely heavily on apps only available for the iPad then that could be a big thing. With the exception of the maps embarrassment Apple software has tended to be very polished,

On the other hand I find the iPhone's roots in the iPod and the assumption you will couple it to a Mac or a PC running iTunes for even quite basic stuff like putting music on (unless you buy it from then iTunes store) or getting photos off annoying. I don't know to what extend this also applies to the iPad. By comparison Android seems to have been designed for the cloud from the start and allows a lot more flexibility without needing to be rooted (a rough equivalent to jail breaking a iPhone/iPad). I have several file sync services which back up my photos, have a choice of where to get music, how to get it onto the phone/tablet and what to play it with and even where to install apps from.

To offer any more help we really need to know what you will be using the tablet for.

Hi...just wanted to ask...that app that you linked to only reads the info on the external device right? It can't write to it, can it? Ideally, what I'd like to do is to not only reqd stuff on the external device and transfer to the N10, but also transfer stuff - say I read a document and made changes etc - from the N10 to the device. Would this app allow me to do that? Thanks.

Hi kristal. That's correct. To write to the device you would need to be rooted and use the stickmount app.

It really all depends on what you are looking for in the tablet. The Nexus 10 is an amazing tablet and I am very happy with it. It is used as my "Play" tablet. I use a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 for work and school. While it is not running the latest and greatest OS like the Nexus 10, it has other features that are not found on the Nexus 10. The ability to annotate on any Office file, image, PDF, etc... makes going paperless a breeze. And I am very organized. I have a 64Gb SD card installed and back a lot of the documents up to the cloud. I am very happy with both of them and would recommend either, depending on what you want to do with your tablet.

Disclaimer: I am not trying to steer anyone away from the Nexus 10, it is truly an amazing tablet and I love mine. Just trying to find the right fit.
