The Samsung Galaxy SII 4G went on sale today.

Did you buy one?

Available for $369 at:

Virgin Mobile USA

So far I don't see it online anywhere else. (Checked Amazon, BB, RS, T and WM)

According to the VM USA website, it is available in store at Costco (white only) and Radio Shack (titanium only). Independent dealers are getting it in both colors.

According to the VM press release, Radio Shack will be the only "major national retailer" carrying the Titanium color. I don't know if that means online, in-store or both.

I haven't bought one yet - I'm holding off for a bit.

Picked it up Sunday morning from Radio Shack for $299. I love the phone! Coming from a Triumph I expected it to be leaps ahead, but this just takes the cake.

The 4G in my area is also amazing. Even without the 4g the phone would be great.

If anyone has any questions, I will be more than glad to assist.

Did you get the $35 free airtime and 5 $10 radioshack coupons? I have the grand father $25 with Triumph and love it since I put CM7 on it but still trying to find a reason to upgrade so SG2. One obvious reason for me is the camera because Triumph doesn't take good photos most of the time. What do you think? Thanks and congrats on your new phone. Please talk me into it :)

Is there a root method for the VM version? Also if there is can you upload your mms.apk? I want to see if that will work in my EVO V 4G.

I'm also curious about the rooting method. I found a few videos on YouTube on how to root Virgin Mobile Canada's Samsung Galaxy S2 but I believe that is a GSM phone so I'm not sure if it will work. The phone is ultra smooth by the way and the camera is simply perfect!

Thanks for the congrats!

They said I will receive the 5 $10 coupons in a future email. I could have gotten the free air time but I honestly didn't feel like sitting in the store while trying to activate it.

The camera is very good. Auto focus is nice as well. Haven't noticed any strange hues or anything of the sort in any pictures taken so far.

Also, I basically gave up on GPS with the Triumph, as many others have as well, understandably. Today was the first time I turned the GPS on with the GSII, it found my location and connected to GPS in under 5 seconds.

I bought today at Radio shack. They had it listed for 299 but my particular store had an instant $20.00 at-register credit on todays purchases and they let me use my $10.00 off coupon from the entertainment book. I paid total $269 (before tax of course). They did say I would get 5 $10 coupons in future email. This is replacing my LG Optimus V

Returned phone today. Why? I called VM for help with this G2 phone and the CS person on their end let slip that VM has another Android phone coming out Q1-2013. All he would tell me is that it is Android and will be a 4G phone. Anyone know what this could be? I decided to wait and see whats coming down the pipe.

I read somewhere that it's rumored to be the Samsung Galaxy Victory. I don't put much stock into the rumor until more info comes out.

That sounds about right, considering the rumors that LTE is coming "soon". I'd guess the iPhone 5 and at least one Android phone will be released by Virgin Mobile then. Seems like it would be worth waiting if you are in (one of the few) areas where Sprint has LTE working; not sure I'd wait if LTE is still several months away. The Galaxy Victory, if that is the phone released, also leaves me underwhelmed.

People bitch about how poor Wimax's coverage is but if you check you'll find out that Sprints current LTE footprint is actually smaller than Clears WiMax. If you currently have 4G coverage with Virgin I personally wouldn't wait, also with Virgin's current sale prices I would definitely recommend getting an Evo V for $ 150 vs. the S2 for $ 300.

Comparing nationwide footprints doesn't do you any good unless you're a traveling salesman who is literally in a different city every day (and you only travel to the ~80 cities where Clearwire offers service). Also, Sprint's LTE coverage is smaller now, but that won't be true for much longer.

The complaining is justified. For WiMax to be useful, I need it to work everywhere in my home town, not indoors in only 50-60% of the city, which is what the VM 4G coverage map shows for my home town (not to mention the zero-coverage dead zones).

The S II is a great phone, but I see the WiMax capability as a bonus, not a primary reason to get it or any other WiMax phone.

I understand how little LTE coverage Sprint has. I also know how WiMax performs and how spotty the coverage can be even in cities with WiMax. Based on my personal experience, I'd wait for the LTE phone since I am in one of the few cities that has LTE. Then again, I left Virgin Mobile because of how spotty WiMax was in my area and how dreadfully slow 3G was.

Same here. I love/hated my Triumph. This phone (galaxy S II or epic 4g touch) lives up to its hype. While its been out since 09/2011, its still a top of the line phone in my opinion. I managed to root mine already. Im still running stock firmware. The kernel is what got flashed so that i could boot up a custom recovery and then flash superuser. Awesome directions at XDA but make sure its SPH-D710 compatable kernel. Odin method is only way on this phone.
