I was wondering in which parts of europe has the 2.1 update been released for the milestone, because i have so far not gotten any updates. Is this by chance due to the fact that i have the phone rooted or does that not matter? The phone is an unlocked and was bought in italy.So far the software updater hasn't worked either. And if it is not yet readily available, is there anywhere where i can do the update manually?

I had to force the update to 2.1 on my UK Milestone using the method here;
Motorola Milestone 2.1 update

I'm too impatient to keep waiting for the OTA update, and it was still saying there was no update via the PC update software.

You'll need to have installed the official Motorola software update utility, then download the ROM and the Motorola RSD Lite tool using the details in the link above.

The update takes a matter of minutes but WILL wipe the data on the device - so use any decent backup tool (e.g. MyBackUp) to back up the apps and settings, and let Google re-sync your contacts, email and appointments after you re-sign in.

Besides the Live Wallpapers and other tweaks, you're going to be stunned when you see the new camera interface! It's all-new and amazing. I'm amazed nobody is talking about this, as it now makes the camera so much more usable - and the photos are much better as a result.

(I've also posted the same bit in the thread about Facebook Sync, which is another new addition to 2.1 - as well as a new Car Mode that is like that featured on the Droid).

Surely it wouldn't have all the Motorola stuff in it if it was the Nexus One version? I've got all the Motorola apps, Motonav, the new camera interface and so on.

I don't find pictures any noisier than before. In low light, they're always noisy on the Milestone and I put this down to the sensor or the camera trying to take a shorter exposure to keep focus. If you go for steady mode, look how bad pics are then!

The camera is pretty good in good light though. The camera interface is a vast improvement on the one that comes with the HTC Desire. I'm yet to use the X10 camera properly.

One camera that impressed me was the one on the Acer Liquid, but there's no flash.

The Motorola Software Update site now has the MILESTONE 2.1 update for Italy:
