okay guys. After a day of extensive testing, I can honestly say this ROM is fantastic!
There was a few things I noticed right away. This ROM is
much faster than the original. I downloaded and flashed
Calkulin's Moment Speedrabbit ROM. With the original ROM, after running a program for a while, the home screen would be very slow to respond. By slow I mean it could lock up for a good 5 seconds before any icons appear. That and being unable to swipe homescreens can be irritating.
This custom ROM is fast. Hitting home renders the home screen right away and it responded to swipes just as fast. The 2 apps that took the longest during my testing was the camera and camcorder and it was hardly snails. It only took a second to respond and I got control right away.
Swiping home screens "feel" smoother. The only jitter I got was when I loaded the largest MixZing widget (which takes 1 whole homescreen) and it would sometimes pause for a split second. This may be due to the processor working harder to render the album art.
After flashing the ROM and it boots up, pressing HOME will prompt you to choose between 2 launchers. I chose the first one which was something like "Advanced Launcher."
Right away, the drawer looks like that of the Nexus One but it just replaces the old drawer. It does not have the cool "3D cube" effect when you scroll through your apps. It does have a light alpha transparency which was nice as you swipe through different screens.
The notification bar is changed. It adopts a darker grey color scheme and a tint that overlays the home screen. Almost like a shade effect. The color scheme does add some class to the look but the black text on grey makes it harder to read. Im still figuring out if I could make the text on the notification a lighter color.
The ROM has a new icon set. The gallery, dialer, music, and messaging icons are changed and they do look cleaner and more professional. Going to settings > Sound & display, I've enabled
Animation. Opening and closing apps create a zoom/fade effect exactly like the one on the motorola backflip (sister's phone). It's really nice and did I mention it was fast?
Another thing I noticed. I downloaded my battery life widget by curvefish and it now shows updates in increments of 5%. Meaning, before the battery would update in 10's like 50%, 60%, 70%, etc. and so on. Now it shoes 55%, 60%, 65%. Very nice. Having said that, I've been trickle charging here and there and will report after I do some battery testing.
The overall look of the menus are nicer. There are tints and shades at the top and bottom of the menus for example on the lock screen where it shows the time. The menu has this "beveled" look which really makes it pop out.
The default font is not serif. It is now rounded in all corners. The little things are nice. While i am no an expert on typography, it does look more professional compared to the stock ROM.
That's all I can think of for now. Hope this helps.
