I don't know if this has been posted, but I checked and I didnt see it anywhere on this forum. Check it out:

[ ROM ] [ v1.0 ] Calkulin's Moment ROM - PPCGeeks

It utilizes your choice of Zefie's or speedrabbits (which is based off of Joey's) custom kernel, and brings a bunch of other enhancements.
I personally havent flashed it myself, I am making sure I will have the few things I want to keep apk wise, because I am going to flash to stock CL14 and then try this ROM out, definitely looks good though.

okay guys. After a day of extensive testing, I can honestly say this ROM is fantastic!

There was a few things I noticed right away. This ROM is much faster than the original. I downloaded and flashed Calkulin's Moment Speedrabbit ROM. With the original ROM, after running a program for a while, the home screen would be very slow to respond. By slow I mean it could lock up for a good 5 seconds before any icons appear. That and being unable to swipe homescreens can be irritating.

This custom ROM is fast. Hitting home renders the home screen right away and it responded to swipes just as fast. The 2 apps that took the longest during my testing was the camera and camcorder and it was hardly snails. It only took a second to respond and I got control right away.

Swiping home screens "feel" smoother. The only jitter I got was when I loaded the largest MixZing widget (which takes 1 whole homescreen) and it would sometimes pause for a split second. This may be due to the processor working harder to render the album art.

After flashing the ROM and it boots up, pressing HOME will prompt you to choose between 2 launchers. I chose the first one which was something like "Advanced Launcher."

Right away, the drawer looks like that of the Nexus One but it just replaces the old drawer. It does not have the cool "3D cube" effect when you scroll through your apps. It does have a light alpha transparency which was nice as you swipe through different screens.

The notification bar is changed. It adopts a darker grey color scheme and a tint that overlays the home screen. Almost like a shade effect. The color scheme does add some class to the look but the black text on grey makes it harder to read. Im still figuring out if I could make the text on the notification a lighter color.

The ROM has a new icon set. The gallery, dialer, music, and messaging icons are changed and they do look cleaner and more professional. Going to settings > Sound & display, I've enabled Animation. Opening and closing apps create a zoom/fade effect exactly like the one on the motorola backflip (sister's phone). It's really nice and did I mention it was fast?

Another thing I noticed. I downloaded my battery life widget by curvefish and it now shows updates in increments of 5%. Meaning, before the battery would update in 10's like 50%, 60%, 70%, etc. and so on. Now it shoes 55%, 60%, 65%. Very nice. Having said that, I've been trickle charging here and there and will report after I do some battery testing.

The overall look of the menus are nicer. There are tints and shades at the top and bottom of the menus for example on the lock screen where it shows the time. The menu has this "beveled" look which really makes it pop out.

The default font is not serif. It is now rounded in all corners. The little things are nice. While i am no an expert on typography, it does look more professional compared to the stock ROM.

That's all I can think of for now. Hope this helps.

I flashed this ROM earlier today, it was my first time ever flashing a ROM and the instructions made it very simple to understand. So far it seems good I got WiFi tether working good now. Are there any other useful apps that require root I should look into other than Set CPU and WiFi tether?

Yes, Welcome everyone!

We don't use this board so much as over at SDX.
As far as what you can do you can apply your own themes. I wrote a tutorial on how to change your boot Logo from the Samsung in black and the Glowing Samsung one when your phone first starts up...

Hey Setset, I DID welcome you... that is what "Btw Welcome to the 'rom' club" meant... NO sarcasm intended...

If your familiar with windows mobile its like the build while the rom is the image
Meh.. Not really...
The kernel is basically the full operation set for the system.. it controls all hardware and contains the majority of the drivers so the software can actually communicate with the hardware.. The "ROM" in this case is just a package of the kernel, with the OS files and other stuff... If you are familiar with Windows then the concept of a kernel can be foreign (the kernel is implemented in the windows install and you don't have much control over it) but if you are from the linux environment (which i doubt since you aren't familiar with the kernel) then you will understand that the kernel and OS (system files) are completly seperate.. in fact you can boot the same os (system files) with different kernels, and different os (system files) with the same kernel...

I have to admit I am fairly new to android and linux
I got my g1 myfirst android based phone Friday.
I do understand what the kernal is to a point
I meant I have rooted and installed a few roms already and the lastone required me 2 change the kernal so understand that it is the os
I was merely trying to help someone understand it the way I do.
When it comes to windows mobile or CE u have different builds which to me seems to be the os or kernal right? Or am I way off?
And the rom the chefs cook is the overlaying image right.
And you can cook different builds to different images and together they are the rom
Idk I have a basic understanding and sometimes when some1 ask a complex question they are looking for a basic answer so they have a better understanding of how to structure there next question to get the details they are wanting.
Idk maybe its just me

I have used all of Zefie's and Joeykrim's (and Speedrabbit's custom of Joey's) and I gotta say - this implementation of Speedrabbit's is definitely FAST. But I was pleasantly surprised to notice that the battery consumption was unreal! and by that I mean the best of all 3 I have used. I had done a quick charge using the AC charger that comes with the phone (which I usually don't since it never gives me the full charge that I get when I charge via USB) and I started using it at 7a with Gmail Push and Moxier Push and GTalk active along with other misc apps which d/l data on occasion - and by 7p I was still at 60% usage. Unreal. Made me question if I really had used the AC instead of USB charger.

Usually I would be about 50% or less with the USB charge with the above usage.... but this ROM gave awesome low battery consumption on the quick charger.

Not sure what you would have changed - but it runs nice. Good job with your custom Speedrabbit/Joeykrim ROM.
