Ringer Volume Lock? Other volume question

Is there any way to lock the ringer volume? I keep my phone on vibrate always... well, I try to, but sometimes I hit the volume button on accident and it would be nice to not have to adjust it. Not only do I not want the phone to ring, but I don't want it to not vibrate (all the way down).

Also, I still don't always understand when I can adjust other volumes, like Media Volume. Sometimes I start an app or music and the volume is too loud. It seems like sometimes I can't adjust the volume till after it starts playing.

I found an app called "Volume Control" (the one with ladybug icon). It's a simple ringer control that automatically reverts the ringer volume to whatever it is set to.

I just hope it doesn't use much memory - it stays in notification bar as "ongoing."

Try also, "Sound Manager". It's great; you can set volume levels of all things on the phone (ringer, media, notifications, etc) individually, and you can also set times for them to be silent, etc.
Very cool stock looking app with no adware.

In your experience have you ever been able to set the "notification" volume separately from the "ringer" volume? I was under the impression that they are the same audio stream, at least on the Droid and G1.

I know on the Droid you can set them separately, in sound settings->ringer volume, uncheck the box that says "use ringer volume for notifications" and a second slider appears for you to adjust your notification volume separately

I absolutely have.

Go into Menu/Sound and Display/Ringer Volume and you'll see two different volume sliders,one for the ringer, one for notifications.

Also, this can be done with "AudioManager Pro" from Smart Android Apps, LLC for $0.99US

I've just put a free app on the market just for this situation. It's called "Volume Locker" and it's a very lightweight app. It will lock any stream you want, and allows you to quickly override the locked setting by clicking a notification when the volume is changed. If you don't click the notification within 30 seconds, your volume settings will be reverted back to the last locked in value. Feel free to give it a try and provide feedback

I use this as well and my only complaint is that it doesn't start automatically if you restart the phone.

I wrote Volume Locker because of that app actually. I liked the concept, but it was a hassle to manage and it constantly drained my battery.

Opening an app to change the sound level was time consuming, then of course it was constantly in the tray and polling the sound manager every second. Add to that the fact that it didn't restart itself on boot.

I condensed the ability to change the sound levels by allowing the user to override the default value by clicking the notification in the tray within 30 seconds. Not clicking it reverts the sound levels back to the original settings.

Also it lets you lock multiple sound levels (notification, ringer, voice call, etc). All in all I feel it's a bit cleaner of an implementation.

5 seconds would be plenty of time for me to decide if I want the volume level to stick. I'm probably different in that my hearing is going so I have it loud all the time.

(If you are a right hander- or someone who merely holds the phone in your right hand- try holding the phone up to your ear with your left hand and notice how your fingers land SPOT ON the volume control rocker!)

Never doubt that there is a legion of Droid users praising you silently-and not so silently- the second they find your application in the murky swamp that is the Google market. You can't hear it, but rest assured that I burst into a spontaneous rendition of "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow" when I realized that I could now restart my phone without having to open up a volume control app. (Understand the "he" is generic; should you be a woman, I will just as lustily cheer "For SHE'S a jolly good fellow.") Quite simply, (and understand that underneath the normally overblown rhetoric notwithstanding, this is some of my highest and most heartfelt praise,) this app doesn't suck. At all.

I have "Wheres My Droid" app, will the lock function interfere w/ that? Same w/ me, I don't really need to adjust the ring volume or the phone volume....just need to switch it off when appropriate.

It will ring for as long as 30 seconds, until the notification times out and the volume level is reset.

I'm wondering if there should be an option to unlock the volume when the phone's lock screen is up (the one with the slider bar to unlock the phone)? That would potentially allow for folks to be able to schedule ringers and such.

Would that be helpful to any of you guys? I have no problem implementing it. It will also allow you to mute your volume with the slider bar on the lock screen. If so, should it reset your volume back to what it was when the screen is unlocked?

Personally I think the app should be set to over ride everything except the mute function, which is on the same screen w/ the unlock function.....so when I go to church, I can mute it and when out can slide the icon to turn it back on to the last volume setting.
