I'm thinking of getting am Android tablet after a long absence from using Android (terrible experiences with some MyTouch 4G's turned me away). Anyways, I'm torn between these two tablets. I'm going tonlistnwhat I view as advantages and disadvantages of each and would like input on which you all think is right for me.

My planned uses are mainly web browsing, email, playing games, and watching movies while traveling. Movies is one of the big pluses for the Samsung. With expandable memory, I can just load up ad cards with movies and pop them in, so I can have a much better movie selection with me on the go. Also, I love using my wife's iPad as a remote for the things that it had apps for, so being able to expand upon that with the samsungs ir blaster is another big plus for it.

Honestly, either one is my second choice, I want a Tab 7.7 but it is too expensive cause of the wireless in it.

Nexus 7
Pros:
Quick updates and support, better looking design. Vanilla Android.
Cons:
No expandable memory, no rear camera (dont plan on using it often, but nice to have for QR codes, etc.), no IR blaster for remote functionality.

Tab 2.0 7"
Pros: expandable memory, rear camera, IR blaster
Cons: not a nexus.

I ended up going with the galaxy for there main reasons:
1. Expendable memory. I've had an 8 gig touch, mad wife has a 16 gig ipad , and that is just not enough once you start loading on movies.
2. Peel remote. I really, really like this ability. I'm kinda a A/V nerd, and am always in the search for a good remote.
3. Costco return policy. I'm still leery of returning to Android. I had been planning on waiting for a windows 8 tablet, so Costco's 90 day return policy makes me comfortable that i can try out the galaxy, and ifni don't like it i can return it and get something i like it.

I just bought a N7 for my wife, but I am trying to decide whether to get one for myself or go with a Tab2. The N7 is very fast and I can't find anything that I do not like about it except for the lack of memory expansion. I know that I can root and use a flash drive, but it still isn't the same. Any other pros or cons for the N7 vs the Tab2 to sway my thoughts? Thanks in advance

I had the same hang up being getting the Nexus. I decided to get it basically because it was the newest and greatest. The expandable storage I decided was not a huge deal. I won't be storing movies or music for extended periods of time on it. I listen to music on my phone since it's much more portable. Movies can just be rotated off the tablet since it's not like I will watching the same movie over and over again. Plus, there is always cloud storage. So, I decided 16GB is more than enough storage for the books and comics I read since they don't take up a lot of room. Hell, even after dropping my entire personal photo library I still have splenty of space left over.

Can we rekindle this discussion? I'm in the market for a 7" tablet and I'm torn on which way to go.

Of course I love the idea of the Nexus 7 cause the chip, software, and screen are the bomb. But, the lack of expandable memory and rear-facing camera might be enough to make me look elsewhere. And it seems like the only viable competitor is the Tab 2. Any other suggestions?

In the past I had an HTC Flyer and really liked it, but it was heavy and slow and felt outdated. I also have a Galaxy 7.0 Plus, but I wasn't keen on TouchWiz on Gingerbread. Ideally, I would want HTC to just blow up the DROID DNA to 7" and dump the cellular technology, but I don't think that would come in under $250.

But is there anything else out there worth looking at?

At first I was put off by the idea of no memory card slot on the Nexus 7, but everything else just screamed at me to buy it. I'm not really too bothered about the camera, so can't comment on that. As far as I'm concerned, compared to the specs of the Samsung Tab 2. the Nexus wins hands down in every other respect. What finally swung it for me was this: I bought an OTG cable (don't get the cheapest one, it's a false economy, and they don't fit well) which you connect to your Nexus through the micro usb conection. I also bought a USB micro card reader for my 32gb micro card, which connects to the OTG cable. All you then have to do is download 'Nexus Media Importer' from the Google Play Store, once installed, any external media card, usb flash drive or powered hard drive connected to the OTG cable is immediately recognised by the Nexus, and you can watch anything from your external sources straight on your Nexus. You can also transfer stuff from your external sources to the Nexus, but not the other way round, unless you want to go down the 'rooted' road, which I would strongly advise against, unless you don't mind voiding your warranty.
Hope this helps you to decide.
TIP: As of today (30/11/12) The 32GB Nexus 7 is

You have the galaxy tab plus? You know that's on ICS now, right? :)

I have a galaxy tab plus and Nexus 7 both 32 gb. I don't think I'd ever fill up a 32 gb tablet but if I do I'm sure it would take me a while. Since you already have a Tab plus, I dont recommend buying a Galaxy tab 2. IMO, the tab plus is a better tablet. The N7 32gb is a great buy and probably the best tablet to get for under $250.

You can check out the Acer Iconia a110. You get an SD slot and hdmi output but lower screen res. It sells for about $230.

Well for starters you are wrong on the Tab Plus. It was released with Honeycomb and updated to ICS by Samsung. Not sure if it will get JB, but it probably might since the model is less than a year old and has capable hardware.

And as has been mentioned before, its the better tablet compared to the Tab 2. Also, there are a lot more accessories for the Samsung tablets than the Nexus. You get USB adapters, SD card adapters, keyboard docks, etc.

That was a typo...should've said "had the 7.0 Plus" instead of "have"...I had it and didn't like it, rooted it, still didn't like it, so I sold it. That's the main reason why I'm not wanting to get the Tab 2. But the camera is pretty important to me. I know they all take crappy photos, but it's nice to at least have that option if you see something that you want to capture. If Asus/Google put one in the Nexus 7, there would be no question which one I'd buy.
