Note 2 vs iPhone 5

I'm back, and I've had my note 2 for about 3.5 days now. If you have read my posts before, you know I'm an apple guy... Long story-short... I decided to try Android again based on:
Note 2's screen size and looks
Smoothness of Jelly Bean
Lack of enthusiasm for Apples iPhone 4S-2 (5)
Possibibility of using the stylus at meetings (weird?)

I'm getting used to the phone and here are a few thoughts...

1. I know some have had complaints about the battery... Not me, I can't get the damn thing to run down past 50%!!! And I'm trying! The battery life is SICK.
2. Jelly Bean is a great step forward IMO.
3. Camera is really nice and I believes rivals my 5.
4. Screen is... Well, just awesome. It already deals natural. My wife's S3 feels small. My 5 feels embarrassing.
5. Typing is great and now that I knew to go straight to swift key... I'm a speed demon typist!
6. Apps are still not as refined but I will say that the PLAY is better laid out than the new APP store for apple.
7. Note 2 isn't as UI easy as iOS, but i will probably just need a little more time.
8. Forgot how cool it was to be able to design my own look of the phone.

Last thought on the subject... At least until Apple steps up again and of course it's just my opinion....

Were you the one that posted the thread "Goodbye..." dont recall right now. Anywho, the Note is the best phone I have ever owned and I've had every version iphone except the Apples "latest and greatest". I have played around with the i5 but if you've had the 4 and 4s you've used the i5. Other phones sure feel like toys, that's not even teyibg to be funny.

I keep telling people, Android requires user effort vs Apples extremely simplified and limited ios. I still do love the itunes store. I still do miss itunes. I REALLY miss how easy it is to make audio books, something I'm currently looking into but it's not enough to keep me using an iphone. Loving Android!!

Dead on. I feel the same way as you. I'm an apple fan, but after being so let down by the iphone5 I decided to come back to android. Been 3 days for me and I love this thing.

I just switched to the note 2 from an iPhone 4, I a too am an Apple guy who has invested in the complete Apple Ecosystem. And switched because of those exact reasons. The iPhones are the only smart phones I have ever owned so this will take some getting used to. The note 2 is far from perfect but I am giving it a chance.

Your not nuts. I'm keeping one of my iphones as a backup and as an ipod but definitely not as a phone let alone my main one.

Just a shsme you can't give people the apps that you paid for in itunes. I sold my ipad 2 to get the Note 2 and as my wife also has the ipad 2 I was annoyed I couldn't transfer my apps to hers before I sold it.

Technically, you can still transfer apps under your account to your wifes device. Sign in to her device with your account and she'll have the app installed. You can "share" a purchase with up to five devices.

I never owned an iPhone, but appreciate Apple creating a new class of device.
For me it's all about the display. With those small displays I need glassses to surf the internet or have to enlarge the page to the point where it is combursome to navigate. The Note just gives me a more useable experience. If Apple had a truely large format like the Note, I'd be tempted, but they don't.

Other than that each format has it's advantages, but overall the gap is small.

I, too, am hanging on to my iPhone 5 for now (iPhones are the only Apple products I like) but I really love my Note II especially for watching youtube. It's awesome for that.
Can I send and reply to emails and texts using S Note and if so, how?

i have never gone over to the dark side but i do get a kick going into the apple stores in the mall and holding up the gn2 to the crowd. it's like i was holding a cross up to a sea of vampires.

I have a several computers, feel no particular "fan boy" allegiance to anybody. I buy the hardware that supports the software tools I must use - although with VMWare Fusion and Player - i have a decent Win XP experience on many platforms.
Wish VMWare made a n Android version of Fusion

My current crop of computers include:

iMac 27" 3.4GHz i7 running Lion.

I know it seems redundant - but I use each and every device on a weekly basis.

Got my 1st Android 8" tablet ( Archos 80 G9 ) for $125 last summer and realized Andoid was near as powerful as my ipad and perhaps more suited to my needs -also realized Apple must be very afraid these days.


Got my AT&T Note 2 three weeks ago - LOVE IT
Actually find music composition is near as powerful on Android due the fact the Note 2 is true multitasking, I can have 4 separate audio apps running at the same time and their combined mix is sent to the headphone jack where I can feed it to Belkin Rockstar

and mix outputs from multiple devices and make music with a very small form factor

So I have been bragging to my co-workers about how IOS and iTunes suck - and wowing them with my Android Note 2


Then last Friday my company had their Christmas party and as luck would have it I won the raffle for a new iPad Mini 32GB Wifi.

Its a nice machine, its a handier form factor -

But to be honest I'd be more interested in the iPad Mini if it had a true Mobile Phone SIM card and Phone functionality. Most folks use a Bluetooth headset, then it might make sense - except the fact the whole Apple paradigm with iTunes being the "gatekeeper" of what files go into and out of the device and the fractured gaps in which IOS App supports Dropbox or Box or Wifi file transfer simply is a headache for me

I much prefer the Note 2 where i can simply connect it to any computer with a USB cable and drag and drop my files into and out of the Note 2 - matches my typical workflow and i love it

My new iPad mini sits in the corner lonely.

I had a 3GS for 3.5 yrs then upgraded to the 5 for 3 weeks. In those 3 weeks I had the 5 replaced 3 times. I really wanted a Note 2 before the 5 but they were not coming out till November and we were switching carriers in September and NEEDED new phones before we could be put on a contract with awesome incentives, one of them was a $400 port in credit per phone number. sweet!!!!

Anyway, I walked away from the fruit phone and my $100's in app store purchases over the years and I HAVE NOT regretted the move over to the Note 2 yet. I LOVE this phone.

Went to the 4s because the androids I had had up to that point (Droid X, EVo, etc.) had problems with lock-ups, lag, restarts, etc. The 4s was so smooth, seamless, and suffered no such issues. But I got sick of the tiny screen, and hate being part of the group with apple sheep...they annoy me. By apple sheep I mean those who only buy the phone because others buy it. I buy things for logical reasons, not to impress others with a logo.

IMHO the iphone 5 is just a 4s with a 1/4" longer screen (same width). Yeah, it's faster, but ios is a "dumbed down" and over-simplified OS to begin with, so who really needs any more processing power? Still, no ability to store my own files on the phone, no external storage. No data with voice at the same time (Verizon). To me the iphone 5 was largely hype. 4" screen? That would have been really cutting edge....four years ago...

When I heard the N2 was coming to Verizon, I just hung in there (painful wait watching other carriers get it first). Now I'm so glad I did. The N2 makes the iphone 5 look like a (very dated) toy. The N2 moves through menus and apps just as smoothly as the iphone 4s, but has much more to offer overall. With my 64gb UHS-1 MicroSD card, my phone is rocking 80gb. Even on the top of the line iphone you can't do that. When the 64gb model of the N2 comes out, people will be rocking 128 gb of memory in a cell phone! That's sick!

With the N2, the dream of the android OS has finally been fully realized....my two cents.

1. A screen of at least 4.8" - 5"
2. Customizable UI
3. NFC
4. MUCH better reception. (Note 2 and GS3 have yet to drop a call in my home, iPhone dropped 50% or more of every call I was on.
5. Google maps

Looks like you are on Android to stay then as not one of those (aside from 4 maybe) has a chance in hell of happening.

Never say never. I think you'll see numbers 1, 3, and 4 pop up in iPhones over the next few years. The larger screen will probably take the longest, though.

When I got my iPhone 4, I said I'd never use any phone other than an iPhone. Now, as a Note 2 user, that was proven to be false. While the iPhone 4 was a great phone, I was sorely disappointed with the iPhone 5. 5th row technology and slightly longer was not being innovative or whatever. It just seemed really lazy to me and iOS still looks the exact friggin same as it did when it was first introduced, seemingly, ages ago. The Note 2 had everything I wanted in a phone especially the big screen. It's fantastic for web browsing/gaming and I seriously cannot look at another phone with disgust/contempt. As for battery life? Yeah, I have no issues with that. Even at work (when I'm supposed to be working) I'll play oodles of games and what not and by the time I get home, I'm right around 60ish percent. It takes me quite some time to drain the battery on mine which is a good thing. I'm a newbie to Droid/Jellybean so I'm still kinda getting used to it but the customization options are really nice. Plus the widgets are cool too. Overall, I'm glad I didn't get the iPhone 5 as I probably would've been ho-hum about after a couple weeks. Only real "complaint" is with the Android apps. They still have quite a ways to go compared to the Apple App store as the apps aren't nearly as polished/well thought out as the Apple Apps are. That and I'm sick to death of these droid apps always installing shortcuts or spamming my phone whenever I install them.

I very well may have to figure out how to do something at least similar. I'm 3 days into my Note 2 and loving it and hating it. The dead-simple iPhone 5 ... which feels like a rotary-dial dino to me now ... is far easier for grab-and-go use, in my opinion. While the Note 2 is fabulous and multifeatured, it takes a little more attention to use.

I think where I'm at is that I'd like to keep the iPhone 5 for the most fundamental *phone* use (and camera, which I like a LOT better), while usually carrying a Samsung tablet w/stylus with me. So I've got to go look at the 10.1 ... and maybe see what they come out with in the next few months. Can't stand the iPad.

I'll look at other 7"-8" tablets also but suspect none is going to work as well w/stylus as the elegant Samsungs. Whose TVs also rock.

If you like Samsung and the s-pen, but want a 7-8" tablet, I'd hold out for the Note 8.0. There is a forum here for it.
