This isn't a chance to start Apple vs Android again because I dont want the mods to close it, just informing whoever hasn't heard about it.

Must be an uncomfortable moment over at Samsung headquarters right now. Just weeks after mobile division head J.K. Shin talked some seriously big game, a court in the Netherlands granted 1 more point to Apple in the companies' ongoing patent lawsuits.
The judges banned any "Galaxy products that infringe on an patent describing a way to scroll through a photo gallery using a touchscreen." So any of the offending devices running Android 2.2.1 or higher that doesn't "use Samsung's proprietary photo gallery software" is now officially Dutch contraband. And every day that Samsung refuses to comply with the ban, they'll have to pay Apple $120,000 as recompense.

Patent on photo gallery scrolling lol

But on the lighter side of the dark spectrum http://thenextweb.com/apps/2012/12/07/apple-steve-jobs-iphone-patent-preliminarily-ruled-invalid/

samsung and a few other mobile device companies have a lawsuit coming up for apple, so dont feel bad for samsung we will have the last laugh.
What's the lawsuit coming up?

Sad to see this.. I guess Apple doesn't believe that competition drives the market anymore huh? I will say this.. These stupid lawsuits have pretty much sealed the deal for me. I will never buy an Apple product again.
I won't go so far as to say that. **as I type from my Macbook**
I think all these lawsuits are ridiculous but that's not going to make me get rid of every Apple product I own.

They patent such mill of the run software/hardware. Funny thing too is they're patenting things that were on non-Apple devices first too. It's litigation over innovation....
THIS is what I don't get. Apple has filed and been granted patents over tech that's been in existence forever. I'd like to know how they've been able to get away with this.......yet the patent office sees nothing wrong.

I can't see Samsung getting very excited.

Ordered to pay by Netherland courts? Bwaahaahaa! Says who? Fine, we just won't sell more than the 37 S3s we've sold in your whole litty bitty country so far. I think they are in the Eurodealie, you wouldn't have to go far to get a Samsung from another country.

The Netherlands. Yeah, I'd be real worried.

Not.

What are they smoking over there anyway?

This has gotten to the point that I seriously wonder if Apple's lawyers are just trying to see how outrageous they can get before they get into before they get into serious trouble.

What's next? Sue Corning over glass? Sue Westinghouse over the LCD display? I can honestly imagine Apple using the iToilet joke as an excuse to sue every person on earth who uses a regular toilet for copyright infringement. I can honestly imagine enough of the Apple Faithful paying big money for a sticker that turns their plain old toilet into an Apple-approved toilet.

If that ever comes close to happening, all I ask is a nice clean shot to the lower back of my head...maybe two. With my luck I'd live, and a white plastic ambulance full of "Geniuses" will start an "iV" on me. The horror...

There are many issues here, the first and foremost is our government changed the rules from "first to market" to "first to patent" a long time ago. Meaning you spend all your savings and bet the farm your new revolutionary product is going to be the next big thing and company X happens to see it, guess what they run out and file a patent and you are finished, there is not a thing you can do about it. I know of a company this happened to, not something I would wish on anybody.

Second, the patent system is so far broken I don't know if it can ever be fixed short of scrapping the whole thing and starting over. I wish I could share with you what my personal experiences are right now but I am not allowed to. Suffice to say, filing and getting patents for things that should never be granted are a daily occurrence.

My wife owns a macbook, and an ipod touch, and I won't be getting rid of them, but I won't be buying any more of their products in the future.
