The END OF THE WORLD!!!

I was hoping the world ends in July 1999. But nah, it didnt happen.
I was waiting for Y2K. nothing happened.
In march the nuclear reactors blew up in japan, but tokyo is fine.

I wouldnt mind the world ending in 2012. But from experience I knwo it wont happen.
My bigger problem is that my keyring broke and I could loose my house keys any moment now.

On the assumption that nothing happens a week from Friday, what and when is the next contrived calamity we can get panicked over?

android fragmentation... leads to the earth's crust to fragment faster.. causing major eruptions of lava everywhere... smoke will block out the sun's life giving rays for 100yrs.

this is all start on the release of Keylime Pie. and compounded by the release of ios 7

this was predicted by the Mayan's new calendar.

Funnily enough I had no idea about this end of the world thing, then today a young girl at work started telling us at her family were of a certain faith (don't wanna say what it is as I don't want to offend anyone), she was saying she doesn't really believe everything her mum tells her about the faith but that her mum had recently become involved in this faith again and so she was hearing more and more about it - although she said her mum doesn't force it on her or expect her to follow is faith, but then she started on about ARMAGEDDON.
I was saying "oh....another one????" But then she kept banging on about its NOT the old "worlds going to end" thing but this is real because their bible says it and her mum has shown her where it foretold of "signs" that it's coming, tsunamis, disasters etc and that it genuinely proves that it is coming, and that soon the politicians will be using words like safe and peace and that once they do basically we are doomed!!!!. I sort of felt sorry for the girl on one hand because she was telling me if she DOESN'T take this faith then basically when Armageddon comes she is doomed and she won't be saved, BUT her worry is if she DOES take the faith and Armageddon doesn't happen then she will no longer be able to drive and watch TV????????????
But then on the other hand it was irritating me because as she was talking religion in general anything I said she corrected me like that faith is right like she said they dont celebrate xmas or birthdays because the only day that should be celebrated is HIS day.....and she said that the nominated day is the day he died on the cross, I said "Easter" she said "well it's around Easter but it ISN'T Good Friday because it says in the bible" I said "yeah he was supposed to have died on good Friday and rose again on sunday"..... "but he didnt its in the bible. its NOT good friday or easter sunday." Personally I think everyone is entitled to their own belief and I never force my opinions on people, I'm even reluctant to pass in my religious opinions to my own children because I think it's personal choice. If my kids ask me I will say "some people believe.........blah blah" or "it's something thought......." But I'd never turn around and say "this is the way it is because it says here in the bible.....especially to someone else because their faith would have a different "good book"....but I felt really preached at with the whole conversation, and she started on about this ARMAGEDDON, and was adamant that their is proof it is gonna happen and I felt really narked cos I was feeling the need to argue my beliefs when I don't like that

I believe in God and his book however it is not my place to argue his position to you all it is my place to do is tell you about him and offer you a way to have a personal relationship with him everything else is up to you. I am sorry if the person is a Christian and causing this kind of mishap. The truth is the Good Book tells us we will not know when the world will end and that He will come like a thief in the night. So those tell me that I should worry about today and today only because really my life could end before the world does. and infact chance of my life ending in the next 40 years is very real and likely to happen.

It totally amazes me ..and somewhat.. embarrasses and disappoints me.. that such a large segment of the human race can be so..
"sheep like" just mindlessly following what other people tell them is "truth.".without ever questioning... or thinking for themselves...or comprehending logic....

its kind of like..all the world is a jerry springer stage!!!

yikes!!

and...ewwwww:rolleyes:!

The world will not end on 12-21-12!!!
and if I am wrong..
I will personally give everyone and anyone who says told you so..to me
one MILLION dollars!!!!:D

Whatever happened to the Maya - they certainly didn't see it coming.

2000 BC, the sky was different. 800 -900 AD started the Chaco culture.
The Chacoans did trade southward. Parrot feathers and other artifacts from farther south than the Four Corners area have been found in trash middens. With Chaco, it was severe drought. The Maya have descendants in Mexico today, and Chaco probably gave rise to the Pueblo culture. So both are still here. And haven't seen any panic stricken pronouncements from either.

The Egyptians, Babylonians had a written culture - so did the Chinese. Why is everyone centering on this one?

As for religion - in the 18th century, some Scottish bishop made the announcement that the world began in 4004 BC and some date like October 12th at 10AM.
He got the info by studying the "begats" He was quite a bit off. So why shouldn't the Maya be a bit off?

People have been messing with astrology since they first noticed the stars. It's probably built into our species. If it wasn't, there wouldn't be any horoscopes and soothsayings.

I will say Mayan architecture is pretty amazing. We took a side trip to see one of the minor outposts. I like the Ancient Ones of the Four Corners better.

Though I love philosophical discussion, this is not what I was going for with this thread.
Can we please leave all serious discussion about theology out of this?
This is supposed to be a lighthearted discussion, tongue in cheek, about the Mayan calendar ending in a few days.

Please and thank you.
wait.......you guys arent serious?

Just want to keep from going down that slippery slope. Maybe I'm jumping the gun.

Two Mayans walk into a bar on December 21st. The hostess asks if they'd like a table and they say "no thank you, we won't be here long."

That is what I'm talking about!
