I recently followed some steps to get Revolutionary on my EVO 4G. When I go into bootloader ( volume down and power) it says:

-Revolutionary-
SUPERSONIC EVT2-3 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.16.1002
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMELC03_16ac
RADIO-2.15.00.05.02
Mar 8 2011, 17:02:15

When I try to go into Recovery, it just goes into a screen where it's a picture of my phone with a red triangle and an exclamation point in the middle of it, and the only way to get out is to take out the battery.

I also have an app called Root Checker. The icon is a #. When I have it "check", it says the following:

Device: PC36100
Android:2.3.3 API: 10
Status: NOT ROOTED
Id: uid=10094 (app_94)
gid=10094 (app_94)
SuperUser (v3.1.3): /data/app/com.noshofou.android.su-1.apk
BusyBox: Not found
Su: Not found
Sudo: Not found

I don't know how much of this information is helpful. I'm trying to root it completely, and i would like the CyanogenMod (probably 9 since 10 is glitchy). I'm thinking of getting the Clockwork Recovery, but I don't know.

Please and thank you.

sounds like you have a Locked Boot-Loaderto me.

and Root Checker is saying you do not have SU (Root access)
Do you Have an unlocked bootloader before you continue? If so continue on and download Download HTCEvo4G/rooting/RootEvo4GNew.zip at DownloadAndroidROM.com

Tutorial courtesy of the unlockr.

1. Download and place the Root Package file onto your Desktop.

2. Extract files from the Root Package to your Desktop. Make sure that you’ve fastboot.exe file on your Desktop.

3. Turn OFF your smartphone.

4. Reboot your device into the bootloader mode. Just press and hold Volume DOWN+Power buttons together and you should enter the bootloader mode.

5. From the bootloader menu, select the Fastboot option using the Power button.

6. Connect your device to your PC using the USB cable.

7. Open a Command Prompt Window on your Desktop. To do so, press and hold the Shift key on your keyboard and right-click on any empty area on the screen and choose Open command window here.

8. Enter the following command into the Command Prompt Window you just opened:

fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-supersonic-v2.3.img

9. You need to wait till it finishes flashing the custom recovery on your device.

10. On your device, select the Bootloader option using the Power button.

11. You now have a few options on your screen, choose the Recovery option.

12. From the Recovery menu, choose USB-MS toggle option.

13. Your device will be shown as a disk drive on your PC. Transfer the CWM-SuperSU-v0.87.zip file you extracted from the Root Package to the root folder of your device’s SD card storage.

14. Now, from the Recovery menu, choose Flash zip from sdcard option followed by Choose zip from sdcard.

15. Head to the folder where you transferred the file in Step-13, select it for flashing.

16. Reboot your device after the file has been flashed.

Your device is now rooted ! You shouldn’t be waiting here after rooting your device, go load a custom ROM on your smartphone.

Hope this helps :)

How do I know if my bootloader is unlocked? Also every time I go into bootloader it loads p36img000 or something of that sort. I'm sure I botched the title. Anyway it is annoying and it sometimes factory resets my phone. I remember putting it into my SD card at some point. Do i still need it?

I am not familiar with matt's suggestion, but it might work also, I just haven't checked it out.
If that does not work,
it appears to me that you are fully rooted but all you need is a recovery and then you can flash a rom.
Go here:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...-rooting-gingerbread-2-3-5-dummies-guide.html
Skip the rooting part, click on the "HTCDEV" method, and go to step 2 "How to get recovery"
Then proceed to step 3 to "flash the su file or flash a rom"
Your bootloader is unlocked, it just doesn't say it. With Revolutionary, like mine is rooted, you have full access to root once you install recovery and superuser .zip.
:)

So, first to install recovery.
Second, install rom.
Just go to the link I provided :)

My HBOOT says 6.16. Which one do I pick? I have no clue how it got up to 6.

that is all done by revolutionary. it roots the phone by changing the hboot so that it is 6.16.

to make it easier please use this guide:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html. this is the guide that you should have used in the beginning (but all is good, since you here on AF now;)).

skip the rooting process and scroll down until you see the switching recoveries section. in it you will find directions on how to get a custom recovery. if you need help with it, we can walk you through the steps.

Okay. Downloaded the file it asked me to.

speaking of recovery i would really recommend that everyone switch to amon ra 2.3. it is a much better recovery then clockwork mod. you can get the recovery here:PC36IMG RA 2.3.zip
here are the instructions:
1.download the file.
2.rename the file by erasing the "_RA_2.3" part of the name so that it is only named PC36IMG. make sure not to add ".zip" to the name as windows hides extensions.

It says that it's should be named PC36IMG_RA_2.3, but it's just named recovery.img in Winrar.

do not extract the file. leave it zipped up. and the file needs to be named only PC36IMG. do not add an extra zip, since windows hides extensions by default. the only time you will need to add the .zip to the name is if you have your pc setup so that it shows extensions then you will need to make sure that the .zip is added to the name.

Yes, sir. Hmmmm this is good. I like this. I've now deleted the PC36IMG and changed my Nandroid backup name. Sooo I'm rooted? I can use rooted apps and can flash ROMS? Because I'd like to flash CyanogenMod. Probably not 10, because it's glitchy and can't play videos.
NICE!!!!!!!!
you are mostly rooted. the stock rom you are on is not. you will need to flash the su file and download the superuser app from the market to be fully rooted on the stock rom.

if you just flash cm7 then you will be fully rooted since cm7 has su cooked in. i would recommend that you try deck's reloaded rather then cm7. it is way better imo.

you can find it here: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/618281-list-utilities-apps-roms-kernels-og-evo.html.

you can find deck's and other great suggestions in the staff pick's section.

I'll try a few. I shouldn't use ROM Manager? So I can just have multiple on my SD card and flash from recovery?

yes do not use rom manager. it will not work anyways as you have now have amon ra2.3.

and yes you can multiple rom files on your sd card with no issues. just make sure to do a nandroid backup and wipe properly before you flash a rom. remember that nandroid backups are your friend.

How do I retrieve the backups?

so this is what you do:
1.go into recovery and select backup/restore
2.select restore
3.find you nandroid backup and select it
4.reboot

now i noticed you said you renamed your backup make sure that you do not use any wierd symbols or spaces in the name. also make sure that you are naming the right file. some people mistakenly named the wrong folder when it should be the actual file.

yep all custom roms will be rooted. meaning they will have the su(superuser) cooked in. otherwise what is the point of flashing custom roms? the su file basically gives you root permission so that you can use root required apps. also it will allow you to make changes to the system partitions. so yes all custom roms will have this.

Okay! This is wondrous! It will definitely keep me busy all weekend, configuring my two ROMs. I have CyanogenMod 7.2.0 and the ReLoaded one. One last thing (I think): How do I use HID Bluetooth with my rooted phone? I think that's what's required to use an Apple Wireless Keyboard. This is actually how I got into rooting. I started with trying to get my Apple Wireless Keyboard to work with my Evo 4G, so typing would be easier, and I found out that you had to be rooted. Then I researched what rooting was and I got all excited.

not sure if that keyboard uses the same bluetooth stack, but cm7 (not sure on cm7.2) has support for most bluetooth keyboards.
