i've had my nexus 7 32gb about 2 weeks. i bought it in the US while on vacation because it wasn't available where i live here in the netherlands yet. our electricity is different here. is all i need the following usb plug?

ICIDU USB AC Adapter 1 port - Adapters - Supplies - dixons

do i need a converter for it as well? also can i charge through my laptop if i don't have the usb plug yet?

nope i think you should be fine with that usb charger.

Have a look at that US wall charger for "Input: 100-240V~".

If the charger has this voltage range, then you could use a simple travel socket adaptor :)

This USB charger by dixons might not charge your tab in rapid charging mode like the charger which came with the tab.

i tried charging through my laptop & it took about 9 hrs to get to 76% with the cable that came with it. my husband bought a 110-240 to 5 volt double port charger. it doesn't say adapter so i don't know if it will be the right kind?

5V is USB standard, so it'll charge the tab without doing harm, but it might not be faster as through your Laptop.

Doesn't came the Nexus 7 with a charger?

yes but it doesn't fit in the european sockets. i'm an american living in the netherlands. i bought my nexus on vacation in america because it wasn't yet available in the NL. the salesperson @ staples said all i needed was the adapter for european outlets.

That is what I meant in my first post.
If this US charger has an input voltage of 100-240V~ then you'll just need a simple adaptor for US to european outlets pinout. Look for travel outlet adaptor.

sorry the first link didn't work, i'm still not used to this nexus keyboard....

just to be sure you saw it, here's the one he got again...

ICIDU USB AC Adapter 2 port - Adapters - Supplies - dixons

oh & on the receipt it says adapter while on the site it says charger so i guess it's the same

I had a look at the output specs of the charger, says 5V/1000mA.

I think the charger which comes with Nexus 7 has an output of 5V/2000mA (or 5V/2A).
Have look at it.

So the dixons charger hasn't enough output current.
Don't charge the Nexus 7 with it !

The facts are correct. _MY_ Nexus 7 charger is rated as yours is, 2.0A with an input range or 100-240VAC, 50/60 Hz.

So the dixons charger hasn't enough output current.

WHOA THERE ... it is PERHAPS POSSIBLE that a charger with too much current could hurt, but Asus specifically says we can plug into a PC USB port which is limited by specification to 0.5A ... thus the really slow charging, especially if on. I charge my Nexus most of the time via a Motorola charger, 1.2A, as we have several scattered around the house. It works fine. Someone here a few months back measured charging current and found it to be substantially less than 2.0A in all MEASURED conditions.

(Oh, I charge my Droid phones and my son charges his iPhone via these same chargers, including the Asus 2.0A version.)

Buy an inexpensive adapter to accept the American plug then to the local outlet which will be 220V 50 Hz. That's one beauty of the new switching supplies.

Most generic USB won't charge more than 0.5A.

But some might have modified USB like the Asus's and then the tab would demand its full 2A charging current.

So, to be on the sure side, a charger should be able to supply the phone's or tab's full charging current.

You don't need a new charger. Just a $2 plug adaptor like this one: Amazon.com: US to European Plug Adapter: MP3 Players & Accessories

I travel between the US and Europe since 50 years and that's all I ever needed - for 110V to 240V chargers.

i've always been told those $2 plugs do not convert the electricity. besides since i am living overseas now, i do not want to always have an extra plug with me. i just want the correct usb charger.
