I am stock ics unrooted on razr maxx hd. Foxfi used to work but now my laptop restarts every time i try to connect to foxfi. I tried to connect to foxfi bluetooth but i couldn't get to the page in which bluetooth connects to internet on my laptop.

Is there a free wifi tether app for unrooted razr maxx hd that still works? I don't mind paying for an app but i don't want to pay only to find it doesn't work when we get the jb update.

I am on verizon wireless and do not pay for their wifi tether and i am on a granfathered unlimited data plan. I read one guy got in trouble for using pdanet on an ATT phone. Obviously I don't want that either.

Thanks! Foxfi was great while it lasted. :'

I was also using Foxfi and after the update it trys to make me pay for verizons tethering plan and im also searching to see if there's any replacements, hope someone finds something and ill keep looking and if I find anything ill let you guys know.

You most likely have unlimited data. JB now does an entitlement check. There is a hack but requires root and a warning that if you do so vzw can charge you millions.

Just thought I'd chime in with what worked for me - rooted, using Wifi Tether but it didn't work until you go into Wifi Tether settings and change device profile to generic ICS/JB (wlan0) as somebody said in Syntrix's link. Avoids mucking with SQL.

If you have unlimited data, you will need to muck with SQL regardless.

I'm guessing you don't have unlimited, hence you don't get blocked on the JB stock subscription check screen.

I've been using Foxfi on my RAZR MAXX for about a month and a half so far. Last month, I used about 18 gb of data on my unlimited plan, with about 16 of using Foxfi. This month so far, I'm at about 45 gb and about halfway through my billing cycle. I was curious if anyone has used any large amounts of data (50-100gb) and VZW said anything about it? I'm loving the free internet, which is faster than my cable at home, but just don't want to get disconnected or hit with a high bill or anything. Thanks

Try calling them on the phone. (of course this is risky if they choose to come after you don't blame me!) I did once and the woman I spoke to said it was OK to use. I no longer use it because of the warning. The warn ing surprised me but then it wouldn't be the first time a vzw rep gave bad info. I once got bad info re a text message plan, they had a record of me getting bad info from their rep (a manager too), but they said the written contract rules over anything any agent says and wouldn't live up to her promise.

I'm guessing you are not on JB?
