Should I Get a Triumph?

With cyber Monday coming up, I want to get my girlfriend a new phone. I myself have a Triumph that I modded and she seems to really like my phone. She currently has the LG Optimus V so she could use an upgrade.

My question is, do you think it's worth me getting a Triumph for her or should I look to get a newer VM phone? She uses her phone for everything so it's kind of hard for me to identify a specific use for the phone and pick one from there.

Also, does anyone know what kind of Cyber Monday deals I can expect? I saw last year that VM ran the Triumph for $150 and I know this year Target is running the iPhone 4S for $400 and you get a $100 Target giftcard.

Thank you for the help!

If she likes your Triumph, get her one. There are three or four newer phones available from VM - Samsung Galaxy ll, Samsung Galaxy Reverb, HTC EVO V, and another HTC.. One V, I think. I considered buying either of the HTCs but I'm really glad that I didn't. I had an HTC before my Triumph and couldn't root mine because HTC Sense is a POS. I then gave my brother that phone and he's cracked the screen just from dropping it on the kitchen floor; which imo isn't that bad of a drop compared to outside on the concrete or something. The phone is now not responding to his touch. Triumph has that "gorilla glass" or two layers of glass or something. So that's a huge bonus. The phone seems to last a good year or two for most people. I've had mine only three months now but bought it used from a guy who bought it brand new in late March of this year. Also, you don't know if she'd like either of the HTCs or the Galaxy available on VM. But you know for sure she likes the Triumph. You'll also save a little compared to the Galaxy and Evo.

I would not buy one you can get way better now and the sprint network is horrible unless you are lucky and live next to wimax tower and if you did i would get the htc evo phone, or pick up a t-mobile phone or att and get straight talk( i would wait it out and pick up a nexus 4 though)

Just my two cents, but the Evo V at $150 seems like a no-brainer. It does basically everything better than the Triumph, has a much newer version of Android, dual cores, and it costs less.

Thank you. I saw that too and unless there is some other really good deal, I'll end up getting that for her. I might even get it for myself as well.

It appears that the Evo V is the highest rated new phone for VM, can anyone with the it confirm that it is great?

Man he is clearly asking for a virgin phone and you seem to hate it and want him to get T-Mobile do you work for them? If virgin/sprint suck so bad why are you in here

Virgin does suck I would not recommend it to any one, do you get such great service with you're Triumph that you would recommend it to people? I am just waiting on the Nexus 4 to come back into stock, phones are expensive and i have to buy 2 at a time so i have been stuck with this one for awhile. I was recommending Straight talk which will work off AT&T's network or T-mobiles. I would have recommended T-mobiles 30 a month plan but women tend to talk more then guys so 100 minutes most likely would not have covered it.

I've never had any problems with my Triumph or Virgin Mobile. Maybe it's because their towers are near me (which I have no clue) or I just have great luck but I love my plan and really like the Triumph. My gf is an accountant for Target so I get a discount on my Top-Up cards, paying $40/month for 1200mins and unlimited everything else w/ insurance (which works well, broke my phone once already and they shipped a new one the next day) seems pretty good to me.

Only reason I'm thinking of replacing my Triumph is because the Evo is such a good deal and I want a better camera on my phone since I have to take pictures of my work for my side jobs. That and my gf's phone is pretty old but still runs fine.

I like VM and will look to stay with them.

I hate them i get horrible service with vm and i can see the tower from my house, Best you can manage is 1 meg down on a good day average is 300kbs, triumph is an extremely buggy phone(custom roms on here are the only thing that make it bearable) texts some times don't come in same with calls. the only high point is the $25 dollar price point but i think they over charge even at that price for what you get. If you do any traveling you might as well leave your phone at home half the time you don't have service, Trying to use the web on there network is a joke, I don't even bother any more. youtube whats that, oh wait you are talking about that video service that does nothing but constantly buffer on the vm network.... There are so many better options out there with 20x faster data for hardly any more money maybe when Sprint upgrades the towers they have it will be decent but they went with wimax and then changed their mind after doing a few cities so it is there customers who pay for it with data speeds that were rocking in the 90's

I've never had any problems with my Triumph or Virgin Mobile.

I believed this too for a while, but then I discovered when it quit working, and 36 emails to support wouldn't help, it happens to lots of Virgin Mobile customers. And you are screwed.

Why invest money in a phone locked to a network that may go away? Research it. Lot's of people have been burned.

Anyone want to buy my Triumph?

If you have a problem, go on Twitter and make a ruckus. That seems to get results fast.

Sprint's EVDO network isn't going anywhere. Verizon and Sprint use their CDMA networks for all voice calls. Yes, even on their LTE phones. WiMAX, on the other hand, is most certainly on the way out. So those VM 4G phones do have a limited life span. That said, you'll probably be ready to upgrade to a VM LTE phone by the time that happens.

I've owned the Optimus V, Triumph and now the Evo V. I love my phone - finally. With Groove IP, I make mostly free calls. I've NEVER had a signal at my house, but I actually occasionally get one bar with my Evo V now that they've updated the firmware. I'll admit the 3D is a gimmic, but I've had TONS of fun with it. 80% of my photos are 2D and the camera w/flash is actually pretty good for a phone.
I hated the Triumph for it's dang-near constant rebooting and horrible GPS. No, I never rooted my phone, but you know what? You shouldn't have to root your phone just to make it work.

I left the triumph for the galaxy a few weeks ago.. It's worth the extra bucks

Over the Triumph yes, but $130 more than the Evo V I don't think so. I was playing with my buddies yesterday he just ditched his triumph and his Antutu benchmark score was only about 200 points higher than the Evo, so not worth the extra money. Especially since virgin finally pushed an update last month to correct the text problem.

Comparing phones by bench marks is not good you want to go by real world usage, both phones have pros and con's

Stay away from the Triumph. It was pretty awesome thanks to tickerguy, Whyzor, mantera, g60, and MTDEV. But the hardware is aging, and it only has enough RAM to handle a few apps at once. It multitasks fine on stock, but then you are stuck with Froyo. Newer OSs such as GB and ICS take up more RAM just to run. This leaves little room for apps. VM just killed the $25 dollar plan glitch on their site. Apps are being written for GB and ICS and up for the most part now, so there isn't much goodness in the Triumph. I only would recommend it if you are okay with stock or don't mind losing HDMI on Gingerbread, or can do without camera on ICS. I would get a Nexus 4 on T Mobile, or a decent Windows phone or iPhone if that's your thing on prepaid if possible. If you don't like walled gardens of content and actually want updates, get the Nexus 4. Just be aware that battery life sucks on it. Everything else is awesome. You can also get device insurance with T Mobile. Up to two replacements per year, and a $30 plan (online only). Problem is, the Nexus 4 is expensive (but not more than VM's SGS2) USB O2G is broken at a hardware level, and orders are backlogged. But if you don't mind Google Play music and can stomach the price, it is completely worth it. Also, try the Evo V 4G, g60 already whipped up CWM recoveries for it. He will probably dev for it. But honestly, the Triumph sucks. It will probably be even worse in a year. But as always, MTDEV will probably make it tolerable or better.
